Biography
Rinto Harahap (born in Sibolga, Central Tapanuli, North Sumatra, 10 March 1949 - died in Singapore, 9 February 2015 at the age of 65) was an Indonesian singer, songwriter and producer. In 1969 he founded the band 'The Mercys' which consisted of: Rinto Harahap himself, Erwin Harahap, Reynold Panggabean, Rizal Arsyad, and Iskandar. Then the formation changed with the entry of Charles Hutagalung to replace Iskandar, and Albert Sumlang to replace Rizal Irsyad. This group won glory in the 1970s by releasing many hits at that time.
Besides being a composer, he also had a recording company called Lolypop in the 1970s-1980s. Many Indonesian singers have become popular thanks to their songs, including Nia Daniati, Betharia Sonata, Christine Panjaitan, Iis Sugianto, Rita Butar-butar, and Eddy Silitonga.
