An improved Google News. You can choose to open articles in your default browser. So if you use Firefox with add-ons like adblock all articles are just that, articles that you can actually read where 100% of the viewport is article not 85% ads. Also has cool features like marking a headline as click bait and it'll generate a new one for you.
The quality of articles are decreasing. too many "opinon" articles mixed in who don't really need to be held to the same reporting standard. Lastly, lack of ways to down vote poor content, or flag content that is clearly biased and only telling one side of the story. In short the app is focusing on building new social media style features, and ignoring the current holes with the current algorithm, which isn't necessarily promoting quality articles, but articles most likely to get a read.
Very easy to get on board and news items well curated to my preferences with minimal tweaking. A bit short on customization and UI editing. Edit Oct/23: The one feature that made this app different (and better), the ability to set keywords to block content not important to the user, is broken or on purpose ignored to prioritize delivering press releases pretending to be news. Shame. The app had the promise of being great. Now it it just another aggregator with limited appeal.
