Very effective. I've learned a lot of kanji reasonably quickly with this app. Some minor issues with a few characters getting marked wrong for no clear reason e.g. 青 and 変. Occasionally, the definitions are too similar so it's hard to distinguish them. Also shi vs ichi for 市. There's no way to distinguish which is being asked for when both are options at the same time. I wish that when one makes a mistake it would give a second chance rather than showing you the character immediately. Finished!
I really do like the app but I have 2 big problems with it. Every time I open the app it prompts me to select an account for data sync and I always select the same account but when I switched phones it turns out none of my data was saved and I had to redo everything. My other big issue is that I really hate how the past due reviews reset each time you leave the session. It makes it hard to want to use it if you have a lot of words piled up because you are made to do it all at once.
Pros: - Best tool in my arsenal for learning Kanji - Great format for Daily practice Cons - Categories aren't accurate. I took the N4 and the first page of the test was all Kanji I didn't know and still haven't learned in my N3 lessons yet. If prepping for a test, use outside resources to see which Kanji are good to study and skip ahead to those lessons - Data Sync seems busted (it is constantly asking me to sync data which is annoying because, 1. it keeps asking, and 2. it doesn't work)
