I recently returned from Europe on a very early flight where manually presenting VAT forms at the airport wouldn't have been possible. The user experience is a bit clunky with the various image uploads, but overall provides me as a busy traveler with greatly needed flexibility once I'm back home. My hope is that more merchants adopt digital tools like VAT.
Very time-consuming to set up an account. subsequent purchases should go better, but this system is far less user-friendly than the old system. On this same trip, our other purchases went through global blue, we showed our items, ID, and receipts at the airport, and had the money in our account 2 days later. just saying.
In Japan, they charge 15% of your refund for "processing". Extremely misleading when they tell you it's only 1.5%. In reality, it is 1.5% of your total purchase amount, and not the refund total. Avoid shopping in malls that uses this app!! Instead, just go to the same store that are individual stores outside of the malls and you can get back 100% of the refund. AND no lines since the refund is already done at the store.
