Welcome to Dragalia Lost, an action-RPG gacha game published by Nintendo and developed by Cygames. Dragalia Lost works on the bonds shared between Heroes and dragons focused on tons of grind, and with a multitude of different quests and items, it can be tough to identify the best ways to farm and play. The Daunting task is to compose a team that must consider the element advantage mechanic in the game to complete the battles in auto-battle mode; fret not, we have you covered.
This Team-Building Guide is divided into shorter sections, explaining the complex concept behind what is required as an essential part of clearing content. THen team builds and then to what equipment does, which ones are required and finally, leading up to the Auto-Battle section, a complete detailed recommendation and structure explanation section. Team building is a guide many people can benefit from because many people don't know properly about team building. We will start with the general knowledge that people should know. Final Team Building Recommendations
After you have understood the basics from the beginner's guide, we now will discuss some base teams that can help you clear the early to mid-game content. After discussing Starter Teams, you can move on to more advanced teams’ selection and core scenarios and skills to formulate your teams. Finally, when you understand the end-game starters building of teams, you can start forming the Auto-teams or Auto-Battle teams, which we will discuss later in this guide.
When you begin the game and start collecting heroes, your team should be filled with four heroes, preferably with at least 2 DPS, one Buffer, and one Healer. You can add 3 DPS instead of 2 to clear the more straightforward content faster. Secondly, the game employs Elemental Advantage and Disadvantage in the fight mechanics where one element is more substantial against the other; we have discussed this in our Combat Mechanics guide.
Therefore, your team should encompass multiple elements, typically called a Rainbow team. If your team, later on, is reduced to 0 HP quite often, you can start building a mono-element team and adding new heroes into the roster.
Once you are settled on which and what type of team you want to use, you can add additional equipment. The equipment includes Weapons, Wyrmprints, and Dragons. Keeping this concept in mind, below is the list of a few teams that you can take as an example to go forward with your progression in the game.

This section deals with an overview of most aspects of the game that must be considered when opting and priming your teams, so we have explained each aspect in this section before going forward with optimum Auto-Battle Teams of each element.
Generally, in a team, for a single player, you want to do 2 DPS, one support one healer, or you can forego a healer and take 4 DPS if needed to clear the content much faster.
As we said above, the more DPS heroes you have in your comp, the faster your clear speed will be initially. In the later game, you can choose from a variety of strong DPS Heroes to choose a few and buffed by buffers to gully maximize your efficiency. Some examples are;
The Prince (4* Fire)– One of the first free heroes you get in the game, and he is a Flame hero. His skill Blazing Circlet does AoE flame damage and can burn enemies, while his Exalted Fire deals damage to enemies in a line reduces DEF. Both of these skills and attributes are perfect for farming content that has a Wind element.
Gala Mym (5* Fire) – She is a Fire Hero who transformed into Brunhilda no matter the Dragon she is using. The transformation increases her STR by 15% and powers up her Flame of Passion skill that deals DMG to enemies in a line. If she is already in Shapeshift and already has Draconic Power, the damage increases. Here skill Dragon Claw does damage of Fire element while also increasing her STR by 20%.
Gala Alex (5* Dark) – A dark element Hero is a perfect member for a Dark Team comp. We have explained her usage in the team builds in the preceding sections. His Crisis Edge has two significant effects, primarily the skill deals shadow damage and reduces DEF, and you can use the skill again within 3 sec. When used during the window deals additional damage, and if the enemy has reduced DEG, it deals additional DMG. This skill has additional effects if the target has a buff or is in the break state. The same scenario is with Umbral Erasure.
There is no need for more than one healer like Cleo, as nothing demands too much healing. Her Elder Cure skill can heal all allies and increases their healing potency while also increasing their STR. A few good examples of Healers for your team are written below.
Cleao (4* Dark) –Giving healing and cleanse to paralysis while increasing the STR of the team from the Skill Elder Cure and DEF of your team by 5% from Ancient Aegis. Her co-abilities Recovery Potency provides Skill Haste, and Dragon's Claw provides STR on Shapeshift for your team, and STR with each Shapeshift up to 3 times per quest.
Valentine's Hildegarde (5* Flame) –Her Blooming Love is a Healer and Buffer skill combined, first increasing the team's Recovery Potency by giving the team HP and increasing STR by 8%. Her Holy Protection skill gives teammates a bonus shield. These skills increase the team member's energy level 3 times while her co-abilities increase the team's Recovery Potency and the STR of Flame heroes.
Jiang Ziya (5* Water) –Her skill Curative Catch increases HP, Recovery Potency, STR, and cleanses Burning, while her Provident Protection Skill also increases DEF of the team. Her co-abilitiesRecovery Potency increase just that while other buffs Water-based Heroes with Health, Regen.
Grace (5* Dark) –We have discussed Grace in detail about her Dark Team comp below, but here we'll touch upon her skills a bit. Her Skill Sorrow's Requiem effects change when activated depending on the target's health. Below 40% HP increases DEF of all team, above 40% HP gives them Life Shield. Earnest Prayer simply increases the team's DEF by 100%.
One buffer is enough like Elisanne, as their primary purpose is to provide you with buffs in content to increase your damage or increase your skills Haste, as their primary skill is a buff than attack.
Elisanne (4* Water) – Her Buff Skill Time increases the duration of Buff skills while her Potent Burn Res and Stun Res provide RES to burning and stun simultaneously.
Patia (4*Dark)–We have her in our example comp below, as her skill Sparrow’s Guard increases all member’s STR by 15% DEF by 25% for 15 sec while here Swift Skewer causes bleeding to enemies after dealing some damage. She also increases buff skill’s duration due to her Buff Skill Time ability, and RES to Paralysis increased Crit Rate from other abilities.
Templar Hope (4* Wind) –His first Skill Knight's Spirit increases your team's DEF and STR, and the second Skill Blessed Sword deals Wind DMG to surrounding enemies. His co-abilities increase Dragon Gauge filling rate and STR and HP of Wind-based allies.
Additionally, you are allowed to place only one variation of each character within the same team comp.
The Dungeons have the Team Change mechanic in Rise of the Sinister Dominion. In this mechanic, variations of each Hero may be used across two different teams, but within a single team, the restriction still applies.
Dragons are a type of equipment that provides a bonus stat boost called the aura to the equipping Hero, so try to match the element of the Dragon to your Hero for a massive stat boost. For example, Prince wants a Flame Dragon called Brunhilda as Brunhilda provides the skill Flame STR to the user. And If the user is attuned to Flame: it increases strength by 20% at level 5 of the Dragon or sharing the same element also grants a 50% HP and strength increase to the Dragon's base stats. So, when selecting Heroes, a player should consider what elemental dragons are available to equip to those Heroes as well.
Similar to Heroes, exceptions may be made for unique off-element dragons. Following are some tips to consider for Dragons when incorporating them when Team-Building:
DPS – For DPSs in this game, match up with Dragon having STR Up, Increasing STR or Skill DMG Up which increases skill DMG aura as DPS needs more DPS to kill enemies faster.
When choosing Dragons for DPS characters, you can choose Strength or Skill Damage which depends on how much of the Hero’s total DPS comes from skills. A hero like Gala Alex relies on her skills for many of her DPS to want Skill Damage. Alternatively, a Hero such as Pipple doesn't have much Skill Damage, so he would prefer strength.
Healers – You should pair up Healers with Dragons providing HP up, which increases their max HP, which later is calculated into the healing formula, increasing the heals tremendously.
Buffers –Your Buffers will need Skill Haste Up to speed up their skill rotations, making them cast skills more quickly.
The abilities of the following Dragons still function on off-element adventurers: Mini Mids, Mini Zodi, Mini Hildy, Mini Mercs, Fatalis, and Arsène. Off-element options of these Dragons make them pretty good choices if you need a filler dragon, as they're stronger than story dragons. The healing skills of Phoenix and Freyja grant a potent regen heal that can heal an entire team to full, making them incredibly valuable even off-element, even in raids.
Tiny Typhoon Mini Mids (5* Wind) – Celebratory Storm skill deals Wind Damage while HP & Strength ability increases STR and HP.
Little Slice of Awkward Mini Zodi (5* Dark) – Jubilant Catastrophe deals Shadow DMG while Ability is the same as Mini Mids.
First & Last Mini Hildy (5* Flame) – Her Celebratory Blast deals Fire DMG to surrounding enemies while ability is the same as above two Dragons.
Harvest Goddess Freyja (5* Wind) – Breath of Life, Restores HP to all allies with 42% Recovery Potency, continues healing over the next 20 seconds with 30% Recovery Potency every 2.9 seconds energizes the entire team. (Might: 100) and (Wind) HP is a skill where if the user is attuned to Wind: increases HP by 30%. (Might: 0).
Most of the time, you want to equip whichever weapon gives you the most STR (not might) on a particular Hero. Matching a weapon's and the Hero's element also multiplies the weapon's stats by x1.5, so you should try to match the elements whenever you are able. We want to acquire some particular weapons later, but we'll discuss this matter soon. For now, using basic 3* or 4* weapons should be fine.
You can read about Wyrmprints basic in our introductory guide to Wyrmprints. In later stages of the game, if you have a rare weapon, the higher the number of prints you can equip. 2 and 3* weapons can only put in 2 Wyrmprints while 4* can 3 and 5* can 4. If the 5* weapon is elemental, it can equip 5 Wyrmprints just like a 6* weapon. Effectively and precisely selecting wyrm prints will highly depend on the Hero’s skills and your choice. It is paramount to analyze the Wyrmprint's abilities and decide which Heromatches best with the provided abilities.
DPS –Your DPS should equip Skill DMG Up (increases the user's skill damage or enhances the user's skill effect) or STR Up (increases the user's strength) to improve damage output or skill’s efficiency as preferred Wyrmprints. CRIT rate and DMG are both also viable.
Healers –Should get HP Up because more HP means more Healing or Skill Haste Up; you can cast more healing skills.
Buffers – The concept behind Buffers is similar to healers in terms of what they require Buff Time Up so that buffs will last longer, and Buffers can cast skill Haste Up, so more buffs. Skill DMG Up, STR Up, and other Wyrmprints for DPS are also usually suitable for defense de-buffers, as de-buffers tend to deal a noticeable amount of damage (i.e., a hybrid DPS/support).
Shapeshifting – Heroes that can shapeshift regularly tend to also benefit from wyrm prints with Dragon's Claws (Each shapeshifts increases STR for the remainder of the quest (up to three times per quest)) and Dragon's Skill where each shapeshifts increases attack skill damage by 8% (up to three times per quest).
Auto-Battle –When auto-battling, your main Hero may benefit from wyrm prints with Dragon's Scales (for an increase in DEF while shapeshifting), Flame Res Up, Water Res Up, etc. which are mostly elemental RES and also HP 70 for DEF.
AI Heroes may prefer carrying Flame Res Up, Water Res Up, Wind Res Up, etc. These are RES to particular element attunement. The above is also true for Last Recovery ability, which enhances their survivability.
High-Risk High Reward –Some wyrmprints have high risk, high reward abilities such as Endless Waltz's Full HP = Strength +15%. The Endless Waltz ability states that Wyrmprint ability(ies) upgrades once after being unbound twice and again when entirely unbound, and Full HP increases STR. Suppose a player can maintain the adventurer's HP levels (which may be easier on ranged characters vs. melee or with regen healing). In that case, the additional stats and DMG these abilities provide may pay off. Ultimately, this is all dependent on coming together with what skills and abilities a Hero has and play style.
This mechanic allows your main Hero to equip skills from other members of your team. The game gives you free characters and has their skills available for free. For every other Hero you get via pulls or events, you must unlock their skills via Tomes and get the unit to level 80 with 50 mana circle nodes unlocked.
The Optimize function prioritizes maximizing Might, which may be appropriate to unlock quests, but will often give un-optimal compositions. For example, the Optimize function will, in most cases, pair wyrm prints that do not benefit the selected Hero at all due to class locks. Therefore, while you can use this function for your ease, you are strongly advised to evaluate teams created using Optimize to make sure it suits their needs before starting quests.
We recommend using the optimize function by tweaking a few of the settings in the function depending upon your need first. Either you can use the optimize function after selecting your heroes, in the case of multiple elements, or you have already chosen a few heroes and then don't either have a healer to match or a buffer. Secondly, you can click the element first and then click optimize to form a team optimized towards that particular element. Element optimization will include best in everything only from that element.
The builds that we show below are when you want to tackle content during auto battling because you are grinding for levels or materials or want to complete a particular event. The auto-battle teams aren't a showcase or structured for winning a Tier list but an explanation of how fine-tuning of the team should look like in our humble opinion while playing Dragalia Lost. These teams are built around the synergy to balance DMG and survival, so you do not have to change after every few fights.
We know that you play differently from AI, so many challenges come while building teams for Auto-Battle Content. Therefore, you need to consider the following considerations:

Karl brings forth tremendous offense and good DMG uptime for the entire party. As the lead Hero, Slayer's STR will allow Karl to build strength stacks to finish the battle quickly.

The combination of Yue's Defense co-ability and a multi-target DMG Skill with Stun capabilities make for an excellent teammate. Given the relative ease of this fight, the downsides of Wild Instinct are appropriately covered with Last Defense ability which is provided by How to Flee Properly and her passive.

Halidom Grooms is added for additional Buff Time, while Jewels of the Sun provides a balanced offense and Skill Haste mix. Bellathorna can be equipped in place of Halidom Grooms, and the defensive Wyrmprints can be run in place of Jewels of the Sun if needed, such as How to Flee Properly or even Glorious Tempest.

Uptime for Vixel is critical since his Spirited Song has a somewhat high SP cost, and he will want to cast Agitato Assault as much as possible to boost his and Verica's healing.

While sporting minor overall offense compared to Karl, Naveed is well-suited for this battle on auto, as Radiant Bauble provides periodic Defense buffs and synergizes greatly with Valiant Crown and The Heroes Arrive.
Skill 1 – Crystalline Blades: Deals flame DMG to enemies directly ahead of you and shoots flame blades towards them relative to the number of times "you used radiant Bauble." You can enhance this skill up to five times.

She can provide DEF co-ability, has multi-target DMG, and also can provide Stun RES. Thaniel is a must for getting a steady stream of healing Double buff as Aside from her weapon's skill, she can’t have that, but her frequent AoE damage will help clear the map making her a perfect farmer.

PrimedDevastation provides a great source of Crit Rate for your lead Hero. The ability to inflict Bog and Defense debuff makes it easier for your party to whittle down the boss.
Skill 1 – Droplet Slash (Shared Skill): Deals water damage to enemies directly ahead, inflicts bog, and reduces their defense by 5% for 10 seconds. This defense reduction effect will not stack.
Skill 2 – Drenching Strike: Deals water damage to surrounding enemies, increases the user's defense by 20% for 20 seconds, and activates "Cooling Master." When this effect is active, the user's next force strike will inflict freeze.
Ability 1 – Primed Devastation: Increases the critical rate of the adventurer you are currently controlled by 6% for 5 seconds every time their initial skill, displayed at the top of their skill list, becomes available for use. After activating, you will not activate this ability again for 15 seconds.

This battle becomes incredibly easy with Annelie. Full Poison Res, a massive AoE with Stun capabilities, and the long-range Lance make her perfect for clearing Shadow IO. Add a Skill Damage Wyrmprint and some defense, level her up, and she will take care of the rest.

While we have explained most of the content for team building above, if you want to take team building to the next level, consider incorporating the following suggestions.
You're probably going to work on co-op as you progress into midgame and beyond, so here is some information regarding that.
Only your lead adventurer goes in when you go into a co-op, but the three in the other three team members aren't just doing nothing - their co-abilities still apply to the lead adventurer. The above point means that you can set up three adventurers with good co-abilities to boost your co-op leader, which is called setting up your "backline."
We have explained this mechanic in detail when giving an example on team comp examples below; in the meanwhile, here are some crucial tips on that:
Each adventurer has two co-abilities: their primary and their chain co-ability.
Primary co-abilities – This will work on any member. However, these don't stack if you have multiple of the same ability or buffs.
Chain co-abilities (CCA) – They are usually locked behind an element matching the Hero. The prominent five-story adventurers ( The Prince, Elisanne, Ranzal, Cleo, and Luca) are exceptions, so their CCA works on anyone regardless of element. Also, unlike Primary co-abilities, Chain co-abilities can stack with each other, and they have no limit to how many can stack.
Linked to Weapons –Primaryco-abilities are typically linked to weapon type (though some unique co-abilities go against this trend).
Chain co-abilities can vary avidly by the Hero - but typically speaking, the primary co-abilities are more critical to set up initially before working for chains.
As we have said before, you should focus on two types of teams: co-op teams and single-player teams. Single-player teams can be composed based on the content or event you want to clear, while co-op teams are for end-game type.
Co-op Team:
This type of team works in this game because only your first unit counts as long as all four characters are present. If one person joined, your second member would count, but because this is for end game content, there should be four people joining in, and you should at least have your first unit built to the max power. It doesn't mean the other three are not necessary; they are more so because of their co-abilities as the primary unit can use them to their benefit. Co-abilities go for all teams.
The following team is built on the Union Dragon Haste build mechanic, as shown below.
A union is a started unit, and he benefits immensely from Dragons; that's why the above team is built around it. For example, we build a team around Hawk, which is built around generic damage for him because when in doubt, skill damage and strength are two stats you can't go wrong with at all. These two are very good for damaging units.
Crit rate is potent on some units, which we can show off Galaxia because her kit is built around getting crits for Crit DMG and making sure she keeps a combo time. Nobu and Ezlith have crit and combo time, and while Marth has flurry strength. This composition is undoubtedly built to keep Galaxia making combos and get that Crit DMG as fast as possible and still benefit from the additional strength. The above comp is very powerful, and that is generally how you want to think about doing Co-op teams.
Example plus Stacking of Co-Abilities – One example can be using Sword Wielders built around cuts and co-abilities. For example, Marth has co-ability as Dragon Haste, and his chain ability is Flame Strength. Eudin’s co-ability is also Dragon Haste, but his chain ability is also Dragon Haste. Still, if he is at the second slot after Marth, he only gets one of the Dragon Haste abilities because co-abilities don't stack. Still, Chain Co-abilities can, and that is why you can go for a co-ability stacked with a chain co-ability.
Grace as an example –Let's explain why Grace and the general healer comp work so great. Her Healing scales off of max HP, where Grace's shields are also based on max HP. So you can mix Boton, Sazanka, and Krom. Here Krom surprises people, as Boton has a 15 HP up, Sazanca gives Shadow HP as chain co-ability, so it stacks with the co-ability the 50 HP. Krom's HP10% and DEF 10% is a unique co-ability that still stacks with the HP and DEF. This stacking gives 34% HP from co-abilities alone which is a way you can mostly build healers along with if you build them as Haste focused as they can get their skills faster with the Skill Haste.
Single Player Team:
Now let's move on to Single Player based teams where you need all four units worked up. One example is Auto-Dark Team for most content, and it is possible but becomes very specific. It would help if you built such teams what each of their kits does. One example is Patia and Grace; their combo is ridiculous as when It comes to Grace, she gives the Sorrow's Requiem, Life Shields, and she also has a Healing Doblebuff IV, so every time she receives a defense buff, she heals HP. On her first skill, Patia gives DEF and STR from Sparrow's Guard, so, therefore, she would then support the main DPS and support Grace by making her regen HP a little faster. Another example is Zena, a free unit that also goes into this mechanic of healing Grace's HP faster, and Alex, the main DPS for this build.
