The Geo element, one of Genshin Impact 7 elements and one of the 6 elements initially released in the game, have always been one of the more powerful elements, however, Geo lacks utility due to its inability to interact with most elements. That being said, Geo is one of the best elements in terms of raw damage output and provides the entire team the best defensive form of abilities in the game - shields and crystallization. With more Geo characters being released periodically, this is a good time for players to go over how the element works, how they can best use the element and how to play the element effectively.
In this Geo Guide for the Elemental Guide series for Genshin Impact, we will go over how players can best use the Geo Element in the game and the top 5 best Geo Characters players should consider pulling for and using in the game.

Let’s play Genshin Impact on PC and find out together.
The Geo element is one of the game’s 7 major elements and one of the initial 6 elements that was introduced in the first launch of the game. Since its release, Geo have experienced several changes in its usability and gameplay changes to make it more powerful and easier to use for all players and the element excels at boosting the team’s defense and survivability in addition to help reduce the enemies’ elemental resistance and buff the team’s combat ability through various off-field buffs.
The Geo Element specializes in inflicting enemies with the Geo elemental mark, enabling other elements to utilize this mark to generate special shields using the Crystalize elemental reaction, help to grant the active character a shield that absorbs elemental damage and help boost the team’s survivability. In addition, Geo Elemental Resonance allows shielded characters to passively reduce the elemental resistance of all enemies within range.
Geo primarily provides the team with Defensive based stat boosts like Defense, HP and Shield strength in addition to shredding enemies resistance to enhance the teams own damage output and the entire team’s damage output.
Geo is not a reactive element, meaning it only has 1 single elemental reaction and that is Crystalize. Crystalize activate when the Geo element comes into contact with enemies marked with 1 of the 4 elements (Cryo, Pyro, Hydro and Electro) and once activated, Crystallization will drop a shield shard of the corresponding element on the ground that, when picked up, create a shield for the active team member on the shield that absorbs damage from all elements but absorbs even more damage when the elemental attack is the same element as the shield.
Geo has another utility aside from its only elemental reaction however, and that is Elemental Resistance Reduction. When there’s 2 Geo members in the same party, the Geo Resonance effect will be active, resulting in the effect that when the active party member has a shield, all enemies will have reduced resistance to all elemental damage from the party, amplifying the damage potential of the team.
Geo is one of the more supportive elements alongside Anemo in the fact that you can have 1 Geo Element character in every party and the party will benefit from the element in terms of defense and survivability. There’s 2 ways Geo characters can best be used: in General teams as a support character and in a Mono Geo team for damage and mono elemental carry:
- General Teams: 1 Geo + 3 of any other elements (other than Anemo) or 2 Geo + 2 elements.
This team focuses primarily on having the Geo character protecting the carry damage dealer in the party and providing elemental resistance and other specific supporting buffs that the Geo characters can provide. However, it is important to note that Geo and Anemo should not go together as they do not interact with each other and can hinder each other’s elemental reactions.
-Mono Geo: 4 Geo Characters (Typically Zhongli + Albedo + Gorou + Itto/Noelle)
This team is quite expensive to build, however, once built, it is one of the best DPS teams in the game and has the potential to completely destroy all bosses in the game with ease. This team relies heavily on the Defense stat of all members of the Geo team and requires an invested Gorou to be worth running. In this team, Zhongli serves as a support shielder, Albedo serves as sub DPS and supplemental damage dealer, Gorou is best Geo support and Itto/Noelle serves as the DPS carry and to deal with bosses
In terms of Artifacts, Geo support characters’ most powerful set of artifacts is the Tenacity of the Millelith artifact set to boost the damage potential of the team. If you run Geo character as a main damage dealer, the best artifact set is Husk Of Opulent Dreams to help boost their own Defense stat and own Geo damage potential.
Top Geo Characters to Use/Pull For
Noelle is the initial character players can get and is a starter character available for grab on the first 10 pulls for all accounts, making her a universal character that all players should have. She is a 4* Geo Claymore user that specializes in providing the party with a hefty shield and heal the team for every time she hits the enemy.
Noelle is a shield and healer support for normal general team and is a main DPS for mono geo team. Her strength comes from the fact that her ultimate can amplify her normal attack and infuse it with the Geo element, allowing her to deal massive amounts of Geo damage to large waves of enemies.
Gorou is a 4* Geo Bow user that is mainly used as a Geo and Defense specific buffer that grants more buffs based on the amount of Geo element party members in the party.
His skills are mainly used in the Mono Geo team and is the reason why the mono Geo team’s damage is one of the best in the game. His buff helps boost the defense stat, geo damage bonus and critical stats for Geo Element characters, enhancing their attacks greatly.
The one and Oni, Arataki Itto is a 5* Geo Claymore character who is the prime Geo damage dealer in the mono geo team. His kit relies heavily on his burst’s ability to infuse his normal and charge attacks with the Geo elements and changes his attacks into massive club strikes, dealing extra damage based on his own defense buff.
He is the most powerful Geo damage dealer, however, he can only shine bright when going together with Gorou and other Geo elemental characters.
Albedo is a 5* Geo Sword User that serves his role as a sub Geo damage DPS that deals off-field damage in all teams. Albedo’s kit heavily relies on his skill to lay a flower field on the battlefield that occasionally creates explosive flowers that deal geo damage proportional to Albedo’s defense stat when the active character deals damage on the field.
Zhongli, the Geo Archon himself, is one of the best characters in the game in the meta ever since his release 2 years ago. His kit is very basic but is extremely powerful as he grants the team a massive shield that can’t be breached by enemies attacks and reduces the enemies’ elemental resistance even when the GEo Resonance is not active.
Zhongli is a massive powerhouse of a support that can help all teams survive and can help provide the best damage buff to the teams he is in, making him one of the best characters in the game.
