Together with the powerful hero chess pieces that players can use to fight each other when playing Magic Chess: Go Go, many players will also need to pay attention to another aspect of the game that determines your chance of victory in a match - your commander.
Each Commanders in Magic Chess: Go Go offer their own special and unique abilities that have the potential to swift the tide of battle and bring you your victory when you invest in them. With more than 30 different Commanders, each with their own skills and abilities, it might be quite difficult to know which commander you should use in a match.
In this guide, we will go over everything you need to know regarding the commander system in Magic Chess: Go Go and show players among the commanders, which commanders are the most important and most powerful that players should try and get and invest in to have the easiest match possible.
Commanders in Magic Chess: Go Go are essentially special characters that will represent the player in the match, each with their own unique style and personality and abilities that players can obtain and use before starting a magic chess match.
Commanders don’t actively participate in the match and do not do any damage, however, different commanders offer different skills and abilities that players should know that can affect the game and might even turn the tide of battle in your favor.
Players can obtain commanders by participating in special events and campaigns that Magic Chess: Go Go holds, including limited time events, Chess pass and other features. Once obtained, players can use the commanders in battles right away.
Before the beginning of each match, you will only be able to choose 1 commander to bring into the match, so you should pay attention before starting the match. When obtaining Commanders, you can also obtain multiple copies of the same commander, when that happens, if you obtain 3 commanders of the same type, you will up the rarity of that commander to 2 stars or 3 stars.
Each commander has their own stats and unique abilities and skins. These abilities will unlock gradually when you upgrade the commander’s rarity and the stats of the skills will also increase proportionally to the commander’s star rating.
To obtain commander skills, players will need to upgrade the commander to 1 and 2 stars, with each star rating upgrade unlocking one of the commander’s skills. At 3 star rating, players will be able to unlock the commander’s Emblem, which allows players to equip an emblem to boost the stats of all heroes on the field depending on which emblem player chooses.
The following is a tier list of the best Commanders players should pick when starting a match, rating from SS Tier to B Tier depending on their abilities in the match and their overall usefulness while you play.
Please note that depending on the star rating of the Commander, it is generally better to bring a higher star commander than a lower star commander, even if the lower star commander is at a tier higher. This is due to the difference in skill availability and stats, so players should consider.
However, the higher the star rating of the higher tier commanders are, the more valuable and strong they will become and the more desirable they will be for players to bring them into the match.
The Commanders in The SS Tier consists of the most meta Commanders in the game, with their abilities massively helping the heroes on the field and helping to change the tide of battle.
The commanders in SS Tier are:
- Ling: His unique ability to immediately trap an enemy’s hero into a duel against one of your heroes allows players to immediately take out one of the strongest threats to your chessboard. This coupled with his passive to grant players Hybrid Attack makes him very strong in various match states.
- Guinevere: Her ability allows players to have a chance to obtain free heroes when refreshing shop, making it extremely good for heroes to obtain free advantages against the enemy with all the extra gold from those free heroes and help to snowball the match in your favor.
- Vale: Vale’s ability allows you to select a hero you have and refresh the shop so that you can get another hero that shares the synergy with your existing hero, helping you to have a better chance to complete Synergy effects for heroes. He also grants a free shop purchase when using this special refresh.
- Nana: Nana’s ability allows you hang onto the game when you are about to be defeated by helping you to survive with 1 HP and grants you an equipment chest, granting you the chance to make a comeback at the late game.
- Fanny: Fanny allows you to create a hero launcher on the stage and after a certain amount of rounds, you can choose a hero to put on the launcher, launching them into the fight for free without the need to worry about deployment limit or hero cost, creating an advantage in numbers against your enemy.
S Tier Commanders are generally decently strong overall and can be used to substitute for SS Tier Commanders. However, S Tier Commanders often only shine during one of the 2 stages: either at the early game state or the late game state, making them difficult to use throughout the game, reducing their usefulness when compared to SS Tier Commanders.
The list of S Tier Commanders are as followed:
- Tharz: Tharz ability allows him to remove the shop after 9 rounds, instead granting you a 3* hero that you own at the start of each round. This ability can be extremely powerful when you have good 3* hero on your board by the time he removes the shop, but since you can no longer access the shop, this ability can hinder your versatility during the late game.
- Lancelot: Lancelot ability prevents players from gaining interest after battle, instead gaining a set amount of bonus gold each round and at the end of the round, uses all gold to upgrade Lancelot. This ability is quite good in early game, allowing you to have a good amount of economy and powerful starting units. However, later on in the game, you will be forced to use all your golds before they will be spent at the end of the round.
- Layla: Layla ability allows her to project a hologram of herself onto the stage, making it effectively 2 extra heroes on the field at the same time. However, her damage is quite low overall and she won’t be able to do much in the late game.
- Zilong: Zilong’s ability allows him to grant you a piece of equipment at the start of the game, helping to boost your damage right away and also help to boost the power of whoever is equipped with that equipment. However, unless you can quickly make a good hyper carry hero by the late game, Zilong won’t be able to do much to help you.
A Tier Commanders are generally still quite decent to use, however, their abilities are quite lackluster to consider due to them being stat boosting abilities that you can make up for by using equipment in battle, making their abilities less desirable overall.
The Commanders in the A Tier are: Lukaz, Kagura, Chou, Wanwan, Angela, Moskov, Miya, Mavis, Eggie, Buss, Pao, Yuki, Connie, Bersi and Asta
B Tier Commanders are generally not recommended to be used due to their lackluster ability and heavy investment requirement, however, they can still be used if you don’t have other Commanders unlocked.
The Commanders in B Tier are: Harper, Ragnar, Abe, Benny, Kaboom, Rya, Austus and Dubai
Overall, each of the Commanders in Magic Chess: Go Go have their own uniqueness and power to them, even if some might be considered stronger than others. Therefore, if any of the commanders turns out to be your favorite, you should only consider this tier list as something to note and can still play your best commander regardless of their tier status, as long as you can make the commander work.
