Punishing Gray Raven Detailed Build on Your Last Line of Defense Kamui

characters known as Constructs or Structures. Each playable character has unique skills, combos, and playstyle. On top of that, every Construct in PGR is aesthetically different and is called the Variant of the Primary Node. You will find a variety of eye-catching characters to add to your waifu or husbando collection. Punishing: Gray Raven is best played on PC.

Today we will talk about the two Variants of the friendly neighborhood do-gooder Mr. Kamui. His S-Rank Variant, Tenebrion, and A-Rank Variant, Bastion, both are a little familiar in playstyle and aesthetics, have entirely different personalities and skills, which we will discuss in detail. Whether to roll for the S-Rank Variant or not and, if not, how to understand the potential of A-Rank Kamui is explained in the guide below. You can get additional info from our Tier List guide to compare both Variants of Kamui to help you gauge their place in PGR.

PGR Intro

With the help of the Punishing Gray Raven character tier list, you can decide which Structure to get and why, whom you should upgrade, and whether they should do a reroll for one of them or not. The Tier List is based on the characters’ ability, use, and if they are worth spending your precious upgrade materials or not.

By following this guide and picking or rolling for Kamui, you can make your journey to mid and end-game a breeze by picking this monster of a character, Kamui. With our build recommendation, you can clear any content within the game as Kamui can help you clear that even if it is higher CP, with no issues non whatsoever. We will take a deeper look at why he is so good, and to top it off; you can get everything for Kamui by naturally playing the game. Read more in our guides about other aspects of Punishing: Gray Raven.

Kamui – Tenebrion, S-Rank:

"A body born after Kamui was injected and managed to suppress the surging dark energy within him. Can freely switch between two combat styles."

Kamui Dark Energon, aka Kamui Tenebrion, is a support class Structure in Punishing Gray Raven. He is one of the best characters in the current roster of PGR due to his playstyle and affinity. He can deal mixed damage – Physical and Dark. And, the best thing about Kamui is that, even though he comes under the support category, he is a massive damage dealer. Moreover, with his defensive capability and skills, you can take on groups of enemies head-on. We can recommend you pick him up early, among others, as dark teams are powerful in the game and if you compete in Warzone: the timed "Kill as many as you can" mode, the dark stage is very competitive.

Punishing Gray Raven A-Rank Kamui 1

Just for the sake of perspective, you would wonder, are there any cons to picking S-Kamui as a starter and farmer unit? Let's discuss. First of all, the synergies for him are limited at launch; you would have no other Construct to pair him up with to utilize their skills, so you'll be having him underutilized in some circumstances. In this scenario, you could always pick him later when his banner drops if you've taken a liking to him. The game revolves around different mechanics in which the same elements support the same element/physical via the QTE skills and buffs, so the same element team together for the best effect.

Skills and Abilities:

S-Kamui deals physical damage in its standard form; most of his dark damage comes from his ultimate, which isn't an ultimate similar to other Structures, but instead, he changes to his dark mode. Subsequently, all of his skills change along, and the numbers on his skills when in alt mode are pretty high compared to the ultimate of other characters; with proper gear and play style, he can stay in the alt mode permanently.

Punishing Gray Raven S-Rank Kamui 2

S-Kamui is played by building up orbs, more Pings, more damage, and skills cooldowns off-field, then can enter the fray to deal burst damage then swap out again. The only downside to S-Kamui is that other dark units will be rare to pair with him at the launch. If we go by the Japan/China Servers, we may get a few good dark ones in future patches, like the dark DPS A-Watanabe, a great partner for S-Kamui. Whether or not more Dark Structures are launched is to be seen in the future.

The gist of using Kamui is to spam triples to stay in ult form, swap out to preserve ult, and return with Supercomputing Space slow for easy triple Blue stuns.

Core Passive, Fighting Will – Consuming 3 orbs gains an additional 10 energy. Receive 15 (30) % less physical damage and dark damage when in Dark mode—a good defense skill when fighting Physical and Dark monsters.

Orb Skills:

Here are the different orb skills for Kamui Tenebrion. Remember that we have mentioned Hanna set in the memories section, which enables another slow motion after you do a 3-Orb Ping which opens up Dark Kamui’s complex gameplay. The Nature of Supercomputing Space is that every orb use during it will be counted as 3 orbs, so it will be a waste to use a 3-Orb Ping during this Space. Instead, use a single Orb to have the effect of 3.

And since Orb regen color is entirely random, this is really up to your judgment on what and when to use.

Red Orb, Countering Swordplay – In the Normal Mode, Cross slash the target, dealing 100 / 200 / 300 (200 / 400 / 600)% of physical damage and an additional 20 / 40 / 60 (40 / 80 / 120)% of dark damage. While for the Dark Mode, Leap forward to an enemy, dealing 400 / 800 / 1200 (800 / 1600 / 2400)% of dark damage.

Excellent ranged skill for the moments you keep yourself far off from opponents when they may be barraging you with attacks and does extra damage with several Pings.

Blue Orb, Sundering Blade – In the Normal Mode, Spin your sword and deal 70 / 140 / 210 (140 / 280 / 420)% physical damage and an additional 20 / 40 / 60 (40 / 80 / 120)% of dark damage. The spin will also draw enemies towards you. While in the Dark Mode, Crush the ground and release energy in a fan shape, dealing 240 / 480 / 720 (480 / 960 / 1440)% of dark damage and stunning the target.

Spins and swipe to kill while keeping them in air CCed. This skill also pulls in when spinning while stunning with a massive slam in Dark Mode.

Yellow Orb, Assaulting Charge – In the Normal Mode, Rush towards an enemy, dealing 75 / 150 / 225 (150 / 300 / 450)% of physical damage and an additional 20 / 40 / 60 (40 / 80 / 120)% dark damage. During the rush, you take 30% less damage and are immune to crowd control. While in the Dark Mode, Rush and swing your sword around, dealing 300 / 600 / 900 (600 / 1200 / 1800)% of dark damage. During the rush, you take 30% less damage and are immune to crowd control.

Kamui charges at the target, dealing PHY DMG based on the number of Pings and extra Dark DMG. When charging, it reduces total damage taken from frontal attacks by 30% and becomes immune to control effects. Dark Form: Charges at the target, dealing Dark DMG based on the number of Pings. Charging reduces total damage taken from frontal attacks by 30% and becomes immune to Control effects.

Active Abilities:

Attack – In the Normal Mode, Swing your sword, dealing a total of 280 (560) % physical damage. In the Dark Mode, Madly, swing your sword, dealing a total of 450 (900) % dark damage. Launches consecutive attacks with a great sword, dealing with Physical DMG. Dark Form: Launches successive attacks at the target with Dark Blade, dealing Dark DMG in total.

QTE – Does an upper spin attack, dealing a total of 210 (420) % physical damage, the last hit will deal 80 (160) % of dark damage and decrease the target's dark resistance by 5(10)% for 6 seconds.

Punishing Gray Raven S-Rank Kamui 3

Ultimate – Dark mode can be activated when energy is above 60, Kamui will change all skills, and Kamui gains Anti-CC. 8 energy is depleted per second in Dark mode, exit Dark mode when energy is consumed. Dark damage is increased by 10 (20) % when in Dark mode. It enters Dark form when energy is more than 60. Transforms all skill forms and gains Super Armor. He consumes 8 energy per second when in Dark Form. The mode ends when energy is used up. Dark DMG increases when in Dark Form.

Passive Abilities:

Leader – Increase elemental damage by 10% and physical damage by 5% when all 3 members in the team are different classes.

Awaken – When entering the battle, get 3 signal balls (only once per battle). Again, building into the passives of our memories build.

Class Passive – Enemies take 10 (20) % more damage when attacked by you, lasts for 5 seconds.

SS Rank – Take 20% less damage when in Dark mode.

SSS Rank – 3 orb skills deal 30% more damage.

SSS+ Rank – Increase dark damage by 20% when in Dark mode.

Weapon Signature – Darkness, once you get this 5* sword, Kamui becomes a monster. This greatsword is a perfect weapon for him, as it gives a 10% chance to do 100% Physical damage to all enemies, which is impressive as it makes him so perfect and viable for clearing the content.

For starting in the game, you can use a 4* sword for him and then change to a 5* sword when given a chance or pull. In the long run, 6* is essential for Kamui to increase his overall damage significantly.

Memories:

You should build his memories around his skills and orbs mechanic as well as he is a tank and can shred more armor; the more, the merrier. These memories cater to that when you want to chain combos and do more Pings also to proc these set-piece bonuses. Or you could always go for the recommended sets by the game and liked by the community to get you a good headstart when you are still learning about the game.

Build 1:

  • Aife 4-Piece
  • Andria 2-Piece

Aife 4-set, a pretty sizable damage increase for our man, pairing good with his Red Orb skill, Countering Swordplay and 2-Piece Andria a chance to call in artillery strike dealing physical damage which is a great combo for your sword which is even more damage going out to fight with our man.

Aife ★★★★★

  • HP: 1184
  • ATK: 109
  • DEF: 181
  • CRI: 53

2-set Effect – Increase all damage by 2% for every orb consumed, lasts for 3s. 5 stacks max, with each stack resetting the buff's duration.

Punishing Gray Raven S-Rank Kamui 4

4-set Effect – Every 60s, the next 3 orb skill will trigger slow-mo.

Andria ★★★★

  • ATK: 30
  • DEF: 49

2-set Effect – Kamui has a 20% chance to call in an artillery strike when attacking, each shell dealing 40% PHY DMG to the target, 15 sec CD.

Build 2:

  • Voltaire 4-Piece
  • New Year’s Firework 2-Piece

4-piece set of Voltaire and 2-piece set of New Year's Firework. Voltaire 2-set bonus decreases the enemy's Defense with your attacks by 10% for 5 seconds with 12 second CD, while 4-set decreases the target's Defense by 15% when attacked and lasts for 7 seconds. Stackable up to 2 times, a convenient memory for a tank that already shreds enemy's armor but also for any attacker too.

The 2-set of New Yar Fireworks gives you an increase to your attack by 5%. After consuming 3 red orbs, you summon 4 Red ring-shaped packets; these packets deal damage when coming in contact with enemies and last for 10 seconds, having a 30 sec CD.

This build considers that both of these memory sets are 5* and are geared towards mid-game, where you have more access to 5* gear than 6*.

Build 3:

  • Da Vinci 4-Piece
  • Katherine 2-Piece

4-piece set of Da Vinci, and 2-piece set of Katherine. 2 set Effect of Da Vinci is gear for QTE where when it is triggered, the player-controlled characters will gain 10% attack and 20% defense for 8s, while the 4 set Effect procs also with QTE and via a 3 orb usage, trigger another Structure's QTE, CD: 8s. When all Constructs are on the field at once, increase the attack by 20%.

This build combines 2 6* memory types for the QTE effect which provides you with everything, including defense and attack boost.

Build 4:

  • Hanna 4-Piece
  • Darwin 2-Piece / Einstein 2-Piece

Hannah 4-piece and Darwin 2-piece. We have mentioned Darwin in build 1 while Hanna again revolves around his Orb Pings to increase damage and get him into Super Computing Space.

We know that all of Kamui is Dark hits. His Passive Core ability emphasizes Hannah's usefulness, so it is highly recommended to use Hannah as Kamui's four main memories over others. Now, for 2-piece, either Darwin or Einstein, which decreases the enemy's elemental resistances.

Hanna ★★★★★★

  • HP: 1453
  • ATK: 129
  • DEF: 223
  • CRI: 67

2-set effect – 3 orb skills deal 25% more damage.

4-set Effect – Every 30s, the next 3 orb skill will trigger slow-mo. The character will gain 1 random orb.

Einstein ★★★★★★

  • HP: 1521
  • ATK: 132
  • DEF: 219
  • CRI: 66

2-set Effect – QTE/3 orb skills decrease the target's element resistance by 15% for 8 seconds (Meaning: if a Fire attack hits the target, it decreases fire resistance, if lightning, it decreases lighting resistance. Physical does not work with this memory) CD: 15s.

4-set Effect – When damaged, open an elemental ring and increase your elemental resistance by 5% + 1% of your current element resistance for 5s. The ring grants an increase of elements.

Honorable mentions – Gloria, ★★★★★ and Mozart ★★★★★, where Gloria decreases enemies’ defenses and elemental resistances, Mozart is a straight-up buff to his damage during Matrix.

Gloria ★★★★★

  • HP: 1232
  • ATK: 107
  • DEF: 177
  • CRI: 53

2-set Effect – Attacks decrease enemy's resistance by 6% for 5s, CD: 12s.

4-set Effect – Enemies within 5m have 6% lower elemental resistance when you are attacked, lasts for 7s. Triggering again will reset the effect.

Mozart ★★★★★

  • HP: 1208
  • ATK: 109
  • DEF: 177
  • CRI: 53

2-set Effect – Increase all damage by 15% when in slow-mo.

4-set Effect – Deal 200% damage to all enemies on screen when slow-mo is triggered.

Memory Affixes - for the top slot, anything is good concerning his orbs to increase their overall damage. Or you can go with basic attacks affixes since you will be making a lot of basic attacks during Dark Mode.

Passive Core benefit is the best for the bottom slot or going for more damage in your Dark Mode, so doing Ultimate here is recommended.

Game Modes:

Warzone – Dark Kamui, while very strong by himself, is also very disoriented when dealing with a group of enemies, so you need to gather enemies and hit them all at once to kill them fast, and Kamui scatters them all over with his swings, so he isn't much recommended for Warzone in the end-game.

Pain Cage – Bushido and Berserked Kamui are the only bosses that Kamui can handle optimally, especially berserker Kamui since his weakness is dark damage. Bushido's main weakness is the Tank class, so that Kamui can do well here. Avoid Roland as he is highly resistant to dark magic.

Profile Data and Secrets:

Trust Level

Due to the change of Construct, his exterior armor is thick and heavy. It provides a very reliable defense, but it is also used to suppress the dangerous power from within him.

1

He can switch from Bastion to Tenebrion by will, allowing a variety of ever-changing attack modes.

2

This Construct allows Kamui to use more powerful attacks, but his body cannot withstand the damaging energy and devouring him for a long time.

3

The dark energy has been fusing with Kamui, gradually enhancing him in the process. However, it is also changing Kamui as a whole.

4

Regarding Camu's existence, the real Kamui and where his consciousness originated from. The mysteries shrouding Kamui have yet to be fully revealed.

5

Occasionally, he and Camu discuss topics such as who the Commandant sees when they look at him.

3

He reckons that phrasing things with “Big” or “Great” has a lot of impacts. For example, “Big Family” or “Big Kamui great sword."

4

He cherishes his teammates greatly.

4

He is terrible at lying; it would cause his Ego Ocean System to fluctuate.

5

He was once conflicted for a while about whether he is Kamui or Camu.

5

Due to the dark energy fusing within him, an adverse effect causing the bodily fluid circulating in his new Construct to change colors.

6

He suspected that Ascendants had damaged his memory module for a while, though he would quickly dismiss the thought.

6

During breaks on a mission, he would plunge his sword into the ground and use it as something to lean his back on.

7

For a while, he was using the Gray Raven team's spare resting cabin because he lost his bets against Wanshi

and eventually losing the ownership of the house.

Kamui – Bastion, A-Rank:

Kamui A-Rank, just like his S-Rank Variant, is a Tank and a support class, providing armor breaks for the team. The damage dealt by A-Rank Kamui, on the other hand, is all PHY. Kamui A-Rank can be good support for rounding your team up while playing in the mid-game, where you may just have one or two S-Ranks in your roster.

Punishing Gray Raven A-Rank Kamui 1

His PHY DMG earns him a place in almost all teams as most of the content and Constructs at launch in Punishing: Gray Raven are either PHY or have some % of PHY DMG in their bio, thus making him great to play within Warzone PHY weather cycle.

If, from the S-Rank selector, you haven't picked Dark Kamui, then we do suggest building Bastion for those PHY teams or at least with the teams that include PHY DD as part of their bio.

Skills and Abilities:

Even though A-Rank doesn't have the terrific effect and behemoth that Dark Kamui is when in Dark Ultimate Mode, he still has a few tricks up his sleeve due to his own skill sets. His damage increases with more energy he stores from his Core Passive, protects himself with a shield from the Blue Orb, stuns the enemies nearby, and goes full parry mode with his Yellow Orb Skill.

His QTE stuns opponents and reduces their Defense like all Tanks in the game.

Core Passive – Gain 40 stored energy after any 3-orb combo. The stored energy limit is 120. The attack is increased by 6%/12%/18% when the stored energy value is at 0/40/80. Stored energy is decreased by 8 points every second during the charged state.

His core passive makes him a great contender to use most of his Orb Skills with 3-Pings and somewhat the same memories as Dark Kamui.

Orb Skills:

Orb Skills utilization is the same as we explained for Tenebrion, use Hanna to go into Supercomputing space and proc his Core Passive as much as you can.

Red Orb – Perform a downward cut, dealing 200%/400%/400% Physical damage. Perform an additional strike for 400% Physical damage when a 3-orb combo is done.

3-Pings are perfect for Aife, New Year Firework, Katherine, Hannah, and Einstein.

Blue Orb – Protect self with a burst of energy, gaining 50%/100%/150% Defense worth of shield. Inflict 1/1.5/2s stun and 100%/200%/300% Physical damage when the ground is struck.

Davinci's memory is good when paired with this skill.

Yellow Orb - Go into a block stance for 2s, reduce damage taken by 75%. Perform an area-wide counterattack for 200%/400%/600% Physical damage when an attack is successfully blocked and gain 40/80/120 stored energy. Perform a sword wave when the block duration ends or when a Basic attack is triggered during blocking, dealing 100%/200%/400% Physical damage and ending the block stance.

Active Abilities:

Attack – Swing the great sword continuously, dealing a total of 790% Physical damage.

QTE – Strike the target with the great sword upon entering the field, dealing 500% Physical damage. Target is stunned for 3s, and Defense reduced by 10% for 6s.

Ultimate – Expend 100 energy. Accumulate a burst of energy and swiftly swing the great sword at the target, dealing 2000% Physical damage.

Passive Abilities:

Leader – All team members' Physical damage +10% when HP is above 70%. Perfect for PHY teams.

Awaken – When entering the battle, get 3 signal balls (only once per battle). As we repeatedly mentioned in this guide how important 3-Pings are.

Class Passive – Targets hit take 20% more damage for 5s.

SS Rank Gain 1 random signal orb after a successful block, 5s cooldown.

SSS Rank – When stored energy is greater than 60, Physical damage taken is reduced by 60%. Physical damage +8%.

SSS+ Rank – Physical damage +10% when a shield is present.

Weapon Signature – Big Kamui, the sword body, has outstanding anti-attack performance. Even in the face of a massive explosion, the sword body can easily block the impact device loaded on it, transforming the damage received into energy to strengthen the sword's body.

Big Kamui is not the name of the weapon. Kamui replaced it with the hilarious name of Big Kamui after getting it because it was terrific, which can harmonize the owner's sea and enhance its strength.

Weapon story – It looks perfect in all aspects, but the price is that the weight of the great power has exceeded the bearing range of most structures.

Memories:

As explained for S-Rank Kamui Tenebrion, a similar building concept builds his memories around his skills and Orb mechanics, which should include 3-Ping combos while also considering the recommended builds from within the game itself.

Build 1:

  • Aife 4-Piece
  • Andria 2-Piece

Build 1 is the same Aife 4-set with 2-piece Andria to proc 3-Pings for more damage and dealing more PHY DMG. Read in detail above in the Tenebrion section.

Build 2:

  • Voltaire 4-Piece
  • New Year’s Firework 2-Piece

Build 2 is also the same as Tenebrion 4-piece Voltaire and 2-piece New Year’s Firework.

Build 3:

  • Da Vinci 4-Piece
  • Katherine 2-Piece

Build 3 is more Viable for A-Rank Kamui than for S-Rank Tenebrion because of its heavy emphasis on QTE skill manipulation, as you'll be using A-Rank Kamui more as a support role in the PHY teams where your main DPS will be some other S-Rank. While not as good for S-Rank Kamui Tenebrion, you play him as your Farmer.

Memory Affixes – we will keep the same for A-Rank; for the top slot, anything is good concerning his orbs to increase their overall damage or upgrading QTE skills if he'll be full support.

Passive Core or QTE benefit is the best for the bottom slot.

Member of the Strike Hawk team, Armoured Model. He is a Construct that uses a great sword while possessing extremely high Defense. He does not win by the speed of his attack but by his sheer strength in the strike. He loves charging straight into battle, always the first line on the battlefield.

1

He always has a smile on his face, a bright and optimistic personality. His thought process is very straightforward. He likes to say whatever he has in mind, unlike Lee, who wants to think things through. He would often get into an argument with Lee, who is the polar opposite of Kamui. Though oddly, their constant arguments don't appear to signal any deterioration in their relationship.

2

“This is hurting my brain; I can't deal with this problem" Although Kamui belongs to the Strike Hawk team, he has become a permanent member of the Gray Raven team due to mission assignment. He once said in a serious tone, although he is a member of the Strike Hawk team, he is willing to risk his life for the Gray Raven team.

3

The Construct is one of Babylonia's new batch, but according to system records, Kamui is one of the earliest Constructs that was put to use. The data for Kamui's consciousness is secured under system encrypted file security level 2. Only Kamui's performance and combat characteristics-related information is shown if you search for Kamui on the system.

4

Kamui and Camu's Ego Ocean are connected, but whether Kamui is aware of Camu's existence from the beginning is unknown. Kamui can only reveal everything related to Camu, the contact between Camu and Kamui, everything on the day when the files are unlocked.

5

What is underneath Kamui’s smile? That warm, direct, and inconspicuous tone buries contradiction and struggle—a constant struggle with oneself, forgotten memories. Perhaps you could liberate him one day, Commandant.

Conclusion:

Punishing: Gray Raven is a fast-paced Action-RPG set in a post-apocalyptic cyberpunk universe touted to be similar to Yoko Taro’s Nier Automata and miHoYo’s Honkai Impact. As It is one of the popular gacha games that players have been waiting for, you want to make sure to have an excellent start to the game, which is why we recommend the Dark Tank S-Kamui, and even if you'll do it by doing the 40 Summons and going for S-Kamui. You can pick any other Construct from the selector; if not, you choose him from the selector instead, or if you do get him, you can double down on him and pick him from the selector instantly, make him SS.
