Puzzles & Survival Review – An Interesting Game with Longer Tutorial

Puzzles & Survival is a game that came to the android platforms on 2th of October 2020 by 37Games. It belongs to the role-playing genre, and it is all about match-three and building a survival base. The game revolves around an exciting concept as there is so much done well through the genres.

 

 

There is a deadly virus going on in this world, which has swept the world as a whole. All the humanity in this world has turned up to be zombies due to the virus. So you have to lead your all followers and survive the apocalypse as your quest.

There are mysteries to solve in Puzzles & Survival and contain a strategy of matching three puzzles. That is quite interesting than most role-playing games, and as it is bent between free to play and role-playing, the game becomes more interesting than others. 

As players, we have to build a sanctuary to save humanity, and we need to use our brains to defend our brains. That is the concept that goes on here, making the game unique.

The game is super interesting with its gaming concept, and the developers of the game did a pretty good job with the game’s graphics and character development. 
However, the game is not suitable for players under 12 due to its explicit graphics and tactics, and we need internet access to deal with the game. So I recently started to play this game, and here I will share my review about Puzzles & Survival.

 

Puzzles & Survival Gameplay

Puzzles & Survival has unique gameplay to combine elements for different types of games to puzzle match, and there are components of the base building as well. So it has a unique gameplay feeling than most other role play games.
The Colouring schemes of the game are muted, so sometimes we may face difficulties distinguishing like the coins we use for exchanging heroes. 

 

 

It would be better If it were improved a little bit. You have the chance of joining a guild soon, so it doesn’t happen typically in the other games with their mechanics. So Puzzles & Survival is unique from most of the games as you can join a guild soon that helps you speed up your building.

Campaign Mode of Puzzles & Survival

Campaign Mode is the first thing you will see in the game, and it is not difficult to deal with. We have a simple three type game in there, and once we play the game, we can realize that it is more than matching. 

 

 

I got to build my own base for the operations, and I had to strengthen it. So whatever I am doing with my power has to use on diminishing the forces of zombies as they can attack us.

Campaign Mode is placed on the map, and I suggest you progress as much there. Otherwise, players can’t proceed in advance. Once I progressed and in the campaign mode, I started upgrading the heroes and my base. You are not supposed to play solo, and it is a must to join with alliances for Puzzles & Survival.

I suggest you progress in the campaign in your first half because you can get rewards. So that is an exciting feature of the game. I got rewards for passing blocks there, so it is an amazing feature held by Puzzles & Survival to attract the players.

In the campaign mode, you have to match three blocks for at least the same colour. There will be five colours, and each of the blocks contains a character and an enemy zombie from our team. Sometimes these are working better, and other times they may not.

This is how the colours are countering each other.

 

• Yellow and Purple counter for each
• Green will counter the Blue, but at the same time, it is weak for the Red
• Red will counter the Green but will be weak for Blue
• Blue counters on Red but at the same time Blue is weak for Green

We have to give our best efforts to match the colour blocks to counter an enemy. So you can defeat them soon. So this makes it somewhat interesting for us to compete as we have to put effort into matching these blocks.  

Tutorial

Talking about the tutorial, it takes forever to load. Such players like me who just want to play the game will have more patience for Puzzles & Survival as its tutorial takes longer than expected. I got to experience an hour of the tutorial, and there is a whole chapter for the players to learn. It explains the resources, boosts, how you can get them, and so on.

The tutorial kind of forces the players to use and spend materials, so it is not a good part of the game. You may love to save those items later, but it won’t let you do so as it forces you to use them. 

And the tutorial of the game literally covers everything about the game resources by explaining you need this to do this like that.

The tutorial covers everything except what you actually want to know. So it is better for the players who like to spend and wait, but it is a bit of an annoying tutorial for the players as it keeps you staying more and more.

Missions

There are so many missions coming with Puzzles & Survival so that you can keep your interest in the game for so long. You can find them in the Quest Lab, and there are four types.

 

• Main Quests – these are the quests that help us progress through the game. They provide us with rewards after finishing.
• Hunting – these are small tasks we can complete from the World Map. So if you are waiting for the completion of a specific update, you can do these. And if you want to gather some specific resources, these are the perfect quests.
• Growth or Other – these quests are achievements, and they come with simple tasks which take some time. There is no need to focus on them as they come naturally when a player works towards upgrading their base. These quests come with EXP, diamonds, speed-ups and resources as their rewards.

 

Heroes

All the heroes in Puzzles & Survival have active skills, and players can use them. These skills are coming as healing, a team buff, and a shield or as plain damage done to the enemy. 

 

 

So whatever you want to be done by the heroes can quickly be done by the proper use. Players can charge those skills by matching blocks holding the same colour, just like the hero.

If you need to be better at the game, you need to use these hero’s skills wisely, which is the only way to succeed. And always use them for a need only. 

Characters are complex yet powerful to entertain us throughout the gameplay. Some of the main characters are included with voice-acted commentary, so it is an impressive game feature.

 

What I Like

What made me really impressed with the game was its unique strategies. And also, the characters are impressive to make exciting gameplay for the players. 
The gameplay is unique as we have to combine elements, and the game is impressive with several quests. That makes me really want to keep up with the game.

 

What I Don’t Like

What makes me annoyed as a player in Puzzles & Survival is its longer tutorial. It takes so much more time than usual, and we have to wait longer to start up the game. That is not a part where it can catch me throughout the game. 

 

And the second thing is if you want to have a fast rank, you need to have a lot of money. So it is better to be away from the game if you do not have a lot of money.

 

Conclusion

So as the last, I would recommend this game for anyone who looks for a refreshing experience than a typical RPG game. I do accept that it has a long tutorial, but its strategies, gameplay, quests and character powers can mild the annoyance that causes you in the tutorial phase. 

Generally, Puzzles & Survival is a great game for anyone looking to combine elements with strategies out of a typical RPG game.
