Clear All Areas

At the start of the SteamFortress tutorial, you will notice some areas are already drilled, and new facilities are built inside them. However, these initial facilities are not the only ones in your bunker. There are many more areas that you need to dig up.

Clear All Areas

To find these areas, first, pinch your screen to zoom out the camera. This will allow you to see much more of your bunker at once. Once zoomed out, hold your finger on the screen and start moving it left and right. You will notice areas marked with a green shovel—these are the places you can dig up.

Digging up these new areas costs no resources but rewards you with commander experience points (EXP). Additionally, when you clear these areas, you can find extra builders, treasure caves, mines, and space to build facilities you unlock later in the game. New facilities require space: some will take up two squares, while others must be built vertically. Therefore, if you do not clear these areas by the time you unlock new facilities, you will not be able to build them.

When drilling down these unexplored areas, you might encounter regions that require advanced drilling technology. This technology can be acquired through the production section of the research lab. To clear the blocked areas of the top four floors, you need to upgrade to Rock Drilling Technology 2. To go deeper, you must level up the rock drilling technology to level six.

By methodically clearing these areas and upgrading your drilling technology, you can maximize your bunker's potential and efficiently plan for future expansions.

Do the Research

One of the first buildings you unlock in SteamFortress is the Research Studio. This is where you can level up your production and defense and further strengthen your army of heroes and vehicles. However, you can only conduct one research project at a time, so it's crucial to prioritize effectively.

Do the Research

  1. Production Section: Your main priority should be the production section. Investing here increases the output of your mines and unlocks the technology needed to drill unexplored areas. The resources you earn from attacking mutants and other game modes will not suffice for effective base upgrades and army strengthening, as they require constant interaction. With auto-production, your base generates resources even when you're away.
  2. Tower Defense Tech: The next priority is tower defense technology. This section unlocks new barriers, weapons, and upgrades that enhance the damage done by turrets. If your bunker lacks sufficient guns and barriers for mutant defense, the tower defense section is where you can acquire more. You don't need to level up ammo technology and fortifications to 10/10—just do one of each to unlock the guns. Then, you can allocate your research efforts among your vehicles and heroes.

Research Lab Upgrades

Ensure your Research Lab is upgraded to at least level 6 to unlock most research options. Some research projects require a significant amount of time. To mitigate this, upgrade your facility. Since upgrading the laboratory itself takes considerable time, ensure you have a research project in the queue before starting the upgrade. This way, you can perform two upgrades in nearly the same amount of time.

Additionally, always keep your research queue active for faster progression. By strategically prioritizing and managing your research projects, you can enhance your production capabilities, fortify your defenses, and strengthen your army efficiently.

Explore the Caves In  Your SteamFortress

While digging up new areas of your SteamFortress, you will discover caves and unique caves called Wonder Caves. Clearing normal caves unlocks a resource mine, but Wonder Caves are unique as they contain a special facility hidden behind them.

Explore the Caves In  Your SteamFortress

To clear a Wonder Cave, you must face around 10 to 15 stages, with each stage increasing in required combat power. In each Wonder Cave stage, there are glowing spots on the floor where you should park your vehicle. These spots provide speed-ups and resource carts. Ensure you collect these rewards as you progress through the stages. If you clear a stage without collecting from these nods, they will be lost forever since you cannot return to previous stages.

By thoroughly exploring and collecting all available rewards in Wonder Caves, you can maximize the benefits and efficiently utilize your resources. Don't focus solely on fighting monsters; take the time to explore and gather all the treasures these caves have to offer.

How to Play SteamFortress Surface

The surface in SteamFortress is the world above your bunker, mostly covered in dust. To clear these areas, you need magnetic power, which is auto-generated at a rate of 1 power per 12 seconds. Additionally, you must unlock and level up your airship hangar to use the airships. The required parts for the airships can be salvaged from abandoned airships found on the surface, and you can also find some by defeating enemies and monsters in your unlocked areas. These missions also require magnetic power.

How to Play SteamFortress Surface

To use magnetic power effectively, you need to spend it before the bar fills up, as it will stop generating once you reach full capacity. If you run out and want to continue playing on the surface, you can request more from your guild members. They can donate through the aid option, and their donation will not cost them their own magnetic power. Similarly, if you see a guild member asking for magnetic power, don't hesitate to help, as it won't deplete your resources.

Surface Progression

When choosing to fight enemies, always start with the lowest-level enemies first. For example, if you are hunting bandits, you need to fight the level-one bandit first. Once you defeat them, the game will allow you to fight level-two bandits and so on. This progression applies to any resource point and mob you find on the surface.

To find specific enemy levels or resource types, you don't need to explore every inch of the surface map manually. Simply click on the magnifying glass icon on the right side of the screen, select the enemy level and resource type you want to find, and it will automatically pinpoint their location. By effectively managing your magnetic power and strategically engaging with enemies, you can maximize your efficiency and progress on the surface in SteamFortress.

Restructure Your SteamFortress

In SteamFortress, there are two types of facilities: movable and unmovable. Resource production buildings are always movable, and it's beneficial to consolidate them in one area. As you drill down to deeper levels, use the newly available space to reorganize your facilities.

Restructure Your SteamFortress

Move all resource production buildings of the same type to a single area. Collecting resources from one facility will automatically be collected from all other facilities of the same type. This setup allows you to efficiently gather resources with a single swipe, rather than having to navigate around your entire SteamFortress to collect them individually. As the number of collection points increases, having them scattered can lead to missed resources.

By strategically relocating your resource production buildings, you streamline resource collection, making it more efficient and reducing the chances of missing any resources.

Play the Training Room

Once you join a guild in SteamFortress, you gain access to the Training Room, where you can fight vehicles to earn hero and vehicle upgrade materials. Playing in the Training Room is straightforward: simply choose a point with no stars on it and hit "fight." Participation is free of cost.

As you progress through these training matches, you will eventually receive a warning that the opponents are strong. Before proceeding, it's recommended to upgrade your heroes and vehicles. However, you can actually bypass this warning and continue playing until your vehicle is destroyed in battle.

Ignore the warnings and keep fighting until your vehicle is truly defeated. This strategy maximizes the materials and upgrades you can earn from the Training Room, allowing you to strengthen your forces more efficiently.

Defend Your Gate

In SteamFortress, mutants are the first obstacle to your progress. Over time, the number of mutants gathered near your fortress will increase. When you see a red light flashing around your screen, it indicates that the mutant count has reached a critical level. If it reaches the maximum, the mutants will breach your gate and destroy your facilities. It's crucial to clear the gate as soon as you see it flashing to prevent this from happening.

Defend Your Gate

If the mutants attack while you are online, you can respond immediately. However, if they attack when you are offline, all production will stop, and you will have to repair each facility one by one to get them working again. To avoid losing valuable resources that could have been generated while you are away, always check the level of mutants gathered before you log off.

Defending Gate Strategy

When clearing the mutants, your job is to strategically place your weapons and walls so that your guns have enough time to effectively deal damage to the mutants entering through the gate. In the early stages of the game, you will have only three guns. When you select a weapons, you will see its attack range. Place your first three weapons in a way that their attack ranges do not overlap, allowing you to cover more ground.

Place walls in a zig-zag pattern to force the mutants to walk through your guns' attack range. Avoid closing off roads completely, as mutants will attack and destroy the walls, potentially taking a route that is not covered by your guns. As you acquire more walls, create bottlenecks to funnel the mutants through narrow passages, allowing your weapons to do more damage. When placing artillery, position them so they can cover at least two bottleneck positions, maximizing their area-of-effect (AOE) damage.

Use your SteamFortress research center to unlock new guns and focus on leveling up your defending heroes first, as this will make clearing mutant waves easier. By carefully planning your defenses and managing your resources, you can effectively protect your fortress from mutant attacks.
