999 BSL Description
999 BSL is an emergency Video Relay Service, providing an on-demand remote service by fully qualified and registered British Sign Language interpreters. This service is aimed at British Sign Language (BSL) users for emergencies only. To summarise; the 999 BSL app allows BSL users to click on a single button to make an emergency call and will be connected to a British Sign Language interpreter working remotely. The interpreter will relay the conversation between deaf and hearing parties in real time. The app also enables a call-back option; this means that the emergency authorities can call a BSL user. The call will connect directly to Sign Language Interactions call centre where one of our BSL interpreters will answer and connect to the BSL users in seconds. BSL users will receive a push notification, to signal that there is an incoming call. 999 BSL empowers deaf people to make an independent emergency call and to potentially save lives. The service is regulated by Ofcom, funded by Communication Providers, and delivered by Sign Language Interactions. For more information, please visit the 999 BSL website: www.999bsl.co.uk
