Alaska Fishtopia Description
Alaska Fishtopia was built to be an easy way to access all the information we want for our Alaska outings. We wanted this information available for trip planning prior to our adventure, during our adventure, and afterwards when we're finished for the day and looking for good food, drinks, and entertainment.
One of the most compelling features of Alaska Fishtopia is that nearly every one of the interfaces is done with an easy to use interactive map.
Registration:
Registration is accomplished immediately by clicking on the “sign up” button when first starting the app. A one-time use SMS password will be sent to your phone to complete registration.
A person either signs up as an angle or as a guide. The only difference between a guide account and an angler account is what is provided in The Fishing Exchange. More on that below.
Features:
Events & Entertainment:
When the day's activities are done use the Events & Entertainment page to locate music, food & drink, nightlife, and more throughout the state of Alaska.
Local Weather:
Automatically locates your current position and gives you up to date current weather along with a 5 day forecast for your location.
Marine Weather:
While local weather provides weather over major land areas, marine zone forecasts will provide predictions for wind direction and speed, wave height, and things such as small craft advisories in open water regions.
Live Buoys:
Forecasts are great but also not always 100% accurate. When you want to see what the actual current conditions are, hundreds of buoys are floating in Alaska's water with radios broadcasting current conditions.
Tides:
In Alaska we're constantly looking at tides. Whether figuring out when to launch a boat, go clamming, or when the fish will be moving into the rivers, tides are a way of life. With the tides page you will get immediate tidal information for the day.
Currents:
While tides tell us water height and the associated high/low time of day, currents tells us the speed at which the water is moving to those heights.
Fish Counts:
Knowing when to fish is the single most important factor when it comes to catching fish! Our Fish count page gives you accurate counts of fish coming up our many rivers and tracks many different species of fish. This information is provided by the Alaska Department of Fish & Game using river based sonar and made easy to use through Alaska Fishtopia app.
What’s Hot!:
The What’s Hot! Section is a list of recommended activities and events that will be within 3 days of the day’s date. Find things like music, food & drinks, fairs and festivals and other events that will be happening in your area!
Today’s Catch – Photo’s
A bragging page just for you! We want you to show off you catch. Lets see those giant King Salmon, limits of sockeye, and halibut that have been caught chasing the Homer Halibut Derby.
The Fishing Exchange
This is probably one of the most exciting areas of the app. Interested in going fishing but having trouble finding a guide? Maybe you’re a guide with an open boat one-day you’d like filled or a single seat your trying to fill. This is where The Fishing Exchange comes in.
Anglers can post trips they’d like to take. You can select almost every detail with easy to use pull-downs. Available selections are the area to fish, type of boat, type of fish to target including combo’s, how many seats are needed, willing price, and whether you want a half-day morning, half-day afternoon or full day.
Are you a guide? Have an open day or an empty seat? Post it in the fishing exchange with details such as area to fish, type of boat, type of fish to target including combo’s, how many seats are available, desired price, and whether you it is a half-day morning, half-day afternoon or full day. All in an easy to use pull-down menu. It really only takes seconds.
Alaska Fishtopia takes a 7% transaction fee on the booking and issues remittance to guides once a week.
