AudioCartoon Description
Cartoons without barriers!
“An inclusive cartoon that is a novelty at a national level, Audiocartoon's audio descriptions are offered in an emphatic and non-aseptic way, helping blind or visually impaired children to identify with the character. This gives considerable added value to the entire project”
Sauro Fani, vice president of the UICI section. Lawn
Audiocartoon is an inclusive project with the aim of creating audio descriptions of cartoon television series accessible to all for free.
The first phase involves audiodescribing the first season of MASHA AND THE BEAR consisting of 26 episodes lasting approximately 7 minutes each.
NEED
The national panorama of audio descriptions of cartoons sees a substantial lack of proposals for blind children. At present, RAI is the only Italian broadcaster that offers audio descriptions of cartoons that can be used free of charge on a special site for disabled people.
All the rest of the cartoons present in the Italian television offering are devoid of self-descriptions.
METHODOLOGY
The audio descriptions are created by a group of authors using the ADAuthor software. Subsequently the texts are verified for duration and content and then move on to recording the voice that will read the audio description and finally publishing it on the "Audiocartoon Italia" YouTube channel.
BENEFICIARIES
The inclusive project is not limited to an audience with visual disabilities but extends to a wider spectrum of users. Children and adults all over the
world who speak and understand the Italian language who will be able to use audio descriptions on the web for free.
