BDB by Perkins Ranch Description
Perkins Ranch’s horse program started with Kolt’s parents, Aaron & Vicki’s Perkins, in 1970. The three of them have always shared an innate love for horses and the ranch. Kolt has ardently fashioned his life to enrich and refine what began with his esteemed parents. Today, our remuda is a menagerie of equine athleticism, cattle-savvy prospects with refined conformation, trainability and long legacies. What began as a foundation of big, raw boned cow horses, Kolt evolved into a hybrid of equine athletes that exude cow sense, can work all day on the ranch and have enough motor to dominate in timed events.
Our brood mares range from the foundation lines of Gallo Del Cielo (“Rooster”), Tanqueray Gin and Hancock to the renowned Shining Spark and Metallic Cat. Kolt will cross these lines with stallions that go back to Mecom Blue, Smart Little Lena, Dual Pep, Highbrow CD and Freckles Playboy.
We believe in working cattle and wet blankets. We believe in winter coats and natural defenses. We believe a good mind is the best color. We believe in seamless transitions from the ranch to the arena. You can trust that every prospect we offer was born right here on the ranch.
Ours is a small-scale, humble, outfit so we can’t accommodate every buyer but that’s also not our goal. It matters where our horses end up and with whom. Ideally, our horses are paired with long-term companions who come back and see us when they’re ready for another good mount from someone they trust.
