WHAT IF MY SCORE DOESN'T IMPROVE?
Overall, you need to slow down. There is a good chance you are just completing practices without focusing on improving your skills, so slow down and focus.
HOW TO IMPROVE READING/LISTENING
1. Improve your vocabulary. Stop and learn all words you do not know.
2. If you are struggling with a section or specific question type, stop and go read/re-read our LESSONS. You might have missed something or did not fully understand it the first time.
3. Learn about each question type, so you have a better idea what to look for when you are reading/listening.
4. Focus heavily on your Grammar. It will help with understanding what you are reading/listening to.
5. Practice without the timer.
- Do not worry about the timer for now, if you are really struggling
- Practice what we teach you in the lessons slowly.
- After improvement, start using a timer, but give yourself a little longer still.
- Determine which question types you continue to get wrong and figure out why.
- Use the allotted time once you are ready.
HOW TO IMPROVE SPEAKING/WRITING
1. Improve your vocabulary. Stop and learn all words you do not know.
2. If you are struggling with a section or specific question type, stop and go read/re-read our LESSONS. You might have missed something or did not fully understand it the first time.
3. Focus heavily on your Grammar. Poor grammar will really affect your speaking and writing scores.
4. Practice without the timer.
- Get used to coming up with ideas. Take your time and write down notes.
- Next, practice with a timer, but give yourself double the time and remember to take and use your notes.
- Finally, once you feel you can handle double the time from step 2, it's time to start preparing with the actual TOEFL timers.
(Please be aware that you can ONLY use this technique with the MOCK TESTS as the simulation/practice tests enforce the allotted time frames.)
HOW TO USE ASK INSTRUCTOR TO IMPROVE WHERE YOU'RE STRUGGLING
If there is a question type you're struggling with, what you want to do is:
1) Go to the practice and navigate to the exact question type you are struggling with. Doing this links the question to the ASK so we can both reference the question directly in the messages.
2) Click the red ASK INSTRUCTOR button found in the left side main navigation and provide a detailed message on why you think the answer choice you selected is right and why the correct answer is wrong.
3) I will help guide you through the correct answer, so you can better understand what's going on.
WHAT IF I ONLY WANT TO TARGET ONE SECTION?
No problem! All our scoring and analysis are done per section. You'll even get a complete DIAGNOSTIC RESULT for each section, so you can choose which section/sections you want to focus your time on.
