The Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, commanded us to choose good names for ourselves and for our children, because a person may obtain luck from his name. Likewise, our names were a sign for us on the Day of Resurrection. Resurrection with your names and the names of your fathers, so beautify your names » [Narrated by Abu Dawud]. And it was stated in the People of Faith by Al-Bayhaqi that the Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, said: “Whoever has a child, let him improve his name and manners.”
Ibn al-Qayyim, may God have mercy on him, said in his book Tuhfat al-Mawdud: “Some people of knowledge said that God, Glory be to Him, will ask the father about his son on the Day of Resurrection before the child will ask about his father.” The hated names may agree with fate.”
