B.O.S. Ship Position Description
The app was developed to process the data collected with the magnetic compass and the sextant and then return the geographical position of the observer in offline mode. The app works exclusively if coupled to a device, called "solar collimator" which can be purchased on the website www.fakerberg.com, suitable only for the Plastimo Iris 50 magnetic compass. By introducing the sextant data, the atmospheric pressure, the temperature of the air, the height of the Sun detected with the sextant and the magnetic azimuth of the Sun detected with the compass equipped with the appropriate solar collimator, through the internal software specifically designed for the development of the relevant astronomical calculations, the App will provide latitude, longitude and magnetic declination of the observation point. The ship location will be displayed on Google Maps, which can be consulted both online and offline. To have offline consultation mode, simply download the Google map of any most popular sea area. If you are browsing in any other part of the world, outside the downloaded sea area, you will still be able to view your position offline on the downloaded Google map.
