It is also known by the names of blue-billed bluebird or blue-billed bluebird, northeastern bluebird, southern bluebird, true bluebird, forest bluebird (South of Piauí), blue-guarundi, blue-guarundi, gurundi -blue and tiathan.
Scientific name
Its scientific name means: do (Greek) kuanos = dark blue; and loxia = cross-beaked, strong-beaked finch; and from brissonii. brissonia = tribute to the French ornithologist, Mathurin Jacques Brisson (1723-1806). ⇒ (Bird) dark blue with strong Brisson beak. In ornithology, loxia is used for a wide variety of strong-beaked "finches" or "finch-like" birds.
