The Shawqiyyat is a collection of poetry by the Egyptian poet Ahmed Shawqi (1868-1932). Shawqi began publishing his complete poetic works in four parts in 1926, with an introduction by Muhammad Hussein Heikal. Diwan al-Shawqiyyat in its complete form included the best poems he composed in the various stages of his literary life (1898-1927), and was distinguished by the diversity of subjects, and the multiplicity of currents and positions that he represented. Shawqiyyat represents an important stage in the life of Arabic poetry in the era of the Arab renaissance, before it was overwhelmed by modern artistic and philosophical doctrines, or the genius of a new intensive culture. Ahmed Shawqi published the first book called “Al-Shawqiyyat” in 1898, but his collections appeared long after that.
