The Lion of the Forest in the Knowledge of the Companions, known simply as the Lion of the Forest, is a book written by Ibn Al-Atheer in which he tried to survey all the Companions (i.e. those who accompanied the Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him) and their translations. Abu Abdullah bin Mandah and Abu Naim Ahmad bin Abdullah (and described them as memorizers), and Abu Omar bin Abd al-Barr al-Qurtubi (described him as an imam), and Abu Musa Muhammad bin Abi Bakr bin Abi Issa al-Isfahani complementing the work of Ibn Mandah in addition to others, including Abu Ali al-Ghassani. And he said on the authority of Abi Omar bin Abd al-Barr (and he says that he added what deviated from the previous ones and corrected), and he refers a lot to his sources in the body of his book. It contains 7554 translations. Ibn Al-Athir mentioned the rest of the sources he relied on, and said: “I added a group of the Companions who settled in Homs, from: (The History of Damascus), and from (Musnad Ahmad), and from (Footnotes to Comprehension), and from (Tabaqat Saad), especially women, and from (Poets of the Companions), who are below them: Ibn Sayyid al-Nas. I think that those in my book: They reach eight thousand souls, and most of them do not know. This book was summarized by the scholars, the sheikh, the jurist, Badr al-Din Muhammad ibn Abi Zakariya Yahya al-Qudsi al-Hanafi, the preacher. And he summarized it Also, Sadid al-Din Abu Abdullah Muhammad bin Muhammad bin al-Rashid bin Ali al-Kashgari al-Hanafi, who died in the year 705 AH / 1305 CE. It was also abbreviated by Shams al-Din al-Dhahabi (673-748 AH / / 1274-1348 CE) and the name of this abbreviation is (Tareqq al-Nama’ al-Sahaba).
