De Libertate: Ukraine 1917-22 Description
De Libertate: Ukraine 1917-1922 is a historical strategy game inspired by the struggle of Ukrainians for their state after and during the First World War. At the time, when the Empires, which seemed to exist forever, weakened, young nations began to play a crucial role in the political arena. Ukrainians are no exception, they also seek independence and create their state - the Ukrainian People's Republic, but numerous enemies stand in their way.
GOAL:
The player must pass six levels, playing for Ukraine and its allies, and free the territory of Ukraine from the enemy forces - the Russian occupiers (communists and imperialists). It is very difficult to do this since each side can only have three units at a time, and there is a power imbalance in the game in favor of the enemies, so the player, like playing chess, needs to think carefully about each step.
COUNTRIES:
The player can play for the Ukrainian People's Republic, the Crimean Democratic Republic, Poland, the Anarchists, Austria-Hungary, and the German Empire. Each country in the game has its unique set of units with special characteristics (attack power, health, price, and the number of moves on the map per turn), which makes the game for different countries more diverse and interesting.
MISSIONS:
The game consists of six missions. The player must complete them, playing for Ukraine and the allied states.
I mission - September 1916. Playing for Austria-Hungary, you have to hold out an unequal battle with the russian troops.
II mission - January 1917. The Bolsheviks attacks the newly created Ukrainian and Crimean People's Republics.
III mission - April 1918. The combined Austro-German-Ukrainian army attacks the Bolsheviks after the signing of the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk.
IV mission - March 1919. The Army of the Ukrainian People's Republic, the Anarchists, the Bolsheviks, and the Imperialists are fighting fiercely among themselves.
V mission - May 1920. The Ukrainian People's Republic, enlisting the support of Poland, must liberate the territory of Ukraine from the Bolsheviks.
VI mission - November 1921. The November raid of the Ukrainian People's Republic troops deep into the territory of Ukraine.
MAP:
The game features only one permanent playing field, it is a map of the territory of Ukraine at that time, divided into 28 territories, of which 8 are empty and 20 have strategic objects.
There are the following strategic objects in the game:
Village - here you can buy new units.
Church - units standing on the territory where there is a church recover two health points per turn.
Plant - one plant brings the player 2 rubles per turn.
In turn, the player can buy units for karbovants.
A large city is an area where are a factory, a church, and a house at the same time - accordingly, it combines all the properties of previous buildings but in one area, which makes large cities the most important strategic object in the game.
