The name comes from the place where it was translated: Elberfeld, in the city of Wuppertal, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany.
It became one of the most important German Bible translations.
The translators of this version were John Nelson Darby, Julius Anton von Poseck, and Carl Brockhaus.
John Darby was an evangelist, also known as the father of dispensationalism. He wrote and edited Darby’s Bible.
Julius Anton Von Poseck was a pastor, Bible translator and founder of the Brotherhood movement.
Carl Brockhaus was a teacher, Bible translator, and leader of the Brother movement.
