Putbus • app|ONE Description
Putbus is a gem of classicist architecture. Our beautiful city has an exceptional historical value and can look back on a very eventful history.
The city owes its new historical development to the Prince's inspiring journeys. Numerous impressions and conversations with well-known personalities from the early 19th century brought urban planning to life. Wilhelm Malte I, Prince of Putbus, as the princely builder, laid out the classical ensemble on the northern edge of his palace gardens. The castle behind the elder bush, which comes from the original name “podebusk”, was unfortunately demolished in the 1960s. The Schlossplatz is still a special place of power today.
However, other striking buildings of the manor were preserved and are now owned by the municipality as well as the almost 75 hectare park itself, which is part of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve of Southeast Rügen.
Putbus has developed into an increasingly popular destination for locals and visitors thanks to the charm of the classicist city layout, galleries, studios, the theater and the connection to the “Rasender Roland” train. By the way, Putbus has the only theater on the island!
It's worth a visit.
