Face the Music App Description
How It’s Played
Face the Music can be enjoyed by any group of 2 or more players and can be played anywhere music is playing. The game continues for as long as players wish. Points are earned by correctly identifying the title of the song and the artist or band performing it.
1 point for correctly naming the song title.
1 point for correctly naming the artist or band.
A player may guess the artist, and another may guess the song title, with each player earning one point for a correct guess. If the accuracy of a guess is questioned, the guesser must "face the music" by using our built in music recognition system to confirm their answer. The player with the most points at the end of the game wins.
Rules
First to Guess: The first player to guess correctly earns the points. If it's unclear who guessed first, decide whether to award no points or one point each.
Neutral Playlist: No player should control the playlist or music source. The music must be from an impartial source (e.g., background music at a cafe, a bar speaker, a car driving by, on the radio).
Game Duration: The group decides the length of the game. Multiple games can be played in different locations, or one game can be played per location.
Live Music: Live music doesn’t count unless it’s a cover band. Don’t shout guesses during performances – it’s rude unless it’s a cover band, then it's fair game.
False Guesses: Incorrect guesses have no penalty but you only get one guess per song and artist. For a challenge, you can play in “hard mode” and subtract points for wrong guesses.
Game Rounds
Each game consists of several rounds. A round is defined by the location where the music is being played.
Example Rounds:
Round 1 at a cafe (Player 1 wins).
Round 2 at a restaurant a few weeks later (Player 2 wins).
Players can spontaneously start the game whenever music is playing - in fact that's the point! For instance, if friends are at the park and someone starts playing music, any player can recall the game and start guessing without announcing it, adding an element of surprise.
Adding New Players
If original players meet with new friends who want to join, they can introduce the game. A new game starts with additional players, and points are tracked for each round in the new game.
