Gleam Parent Description
Gleam rewards kids for time they spend on educational apps and offline chores with access to entertainment & games.
The goal of the application is to enhance existing parental-control and screen-time management tools by taking a positive approach: instead of restricting screen-time, giving children paths to earn it.
The app is simple to configure, and enables configuration of ‘ground rules’ and incentives that encourage children to allocate ‘quality content/activity’ time and earn access to entertainment in return.
The aim of the app is to maximise ‘quality’ screen time, instead of pure restriction.
Children earn screen time, by spending time on educational apps or offline completing offline chores (application categories, offline challenges and reward duration are all configurable by parents). Thus, harnessing children’s inclination and desire to spend time in front of their digital device - to create predictable, positive time, during which quality content is consumed!
With Gleam, parents can:
-Establish Ground rules:
Define down-time (for example from 8PM until 7AM), and determine basic screen-time allotment (for example 15 min/day).
- Define ways to earn additional screen time (challenges):
Parents can create challenges and define rewards. For example:
Online:
‘15 min on chess-app, earns 15 minutes on tik-tok’
or:
‘10 min any-educational app, earns 10 minutes on any entertainment app’
As well as offline:
‘Unload the dishwasher (and take picture) to earn 15 min of ‘youtube’.
- Categorising applications: educational vs entertainment:
While we use application tags to automatically sort, parental discretion is always in place, to determine what applications fit which category.
- Analytics:
Keep tabs on device usage and app usage through intuitive analytics.
Easily understand learn-to-play ration, and Gleam insights into your child’s progress.
- Recommend apps:
Parents may identify and recommend new applications that kids can download and use in order to earn additional screen-time.
With Gleam, Kids can:
- Monitor the screen time:
Review their screen-time balance at any time
- Discover and choose from challenges:
To earn additional entertainment screen-time
