HIC Peterborough Description
The Muslim Khoja Shia Ithna-Asheri Community was established in the 1970’s to advance the religion of Islam, to promote the Shia Ithna-Asheri faith and to develop the worship and life of the Shia Ithna-Asheri community in Peterborough. The community has its foundation in the families who settled in Peterborough after being expelled from Uganda.
From these seeds has sprung the thriving community in Peterborough today. The community now numbers 240+ families and is still growing with a number of families making Peterborough their new home.
Today our community includes Shia Muslims of diverse cultures. The activities of the community consist of religious, educational and social activities for all sectors of the community including regular prayers, majalis programs, a madrasah on Saturdays, and regular social events for all ages including sports, seminars and classes.
