Ireland 100 Description
Ireland 100 is an app for engaging young people and adults with the maths of the school curriculum from age 10 up.
If you are in school or at home, are interested in maths or would just like to know a little more about the island of Ireland, then this is for you.
The app presents questions on number, algebra, data, shape space and measures in a visually stimulating format. As well as focusing on key areas of maths that appear within the framework of the maths curriculum, the app also focuses on the use of maths language.
Ireland 100 uses a reward system that, instead of accruing a ‘score’ by which the User can be judged, uses a token collection system that rewards success by adding a tile to the User’s collection. Each tile contains an image and information about a different location in Ireland.
The User collects locations, which are automatically saved by category, for example counties, castles, islands etc.
As the User progresses through the app, he/she becomes more familiar with the question types and content while all the time building their collection of Irish landmarks, artefacts, and counties.
On completing the app, the User will have answered 800 maths questions correctly and collected 100 tiles, celebrating 100 locations to be found on the island of Ireland.
Ultimately, the app is designed to positively engage the User with mathematics, encourage and reward success in answering questions correctly, while at the same time minimising any negative impact that answering questions incorrectly may have. Users can have as many
tries as they like at each question, without penalty.
The app will be very useful to pupils making the transition from Primary to Post Primary schools as the content is most relevant to the mathematics used in school at this age.
When the User completes the app, he/she will be well versed in maths topics that typically challenge both adults and young people alike.
