Lantern Chess an ICC Interface Description
Lantern Chess on Android is an interface for playing chess, observing games, and chatting on the Internet Chess Club, chessclub.com. If no ICC account then users can login as a guest and play unrated for free. This app may be used with a 30 day trial as well. The interface includes pre-move and timestamp and observing multiple games at once.
Lantern comes with a play the computer mode accessible on Board tab's menu available on and off line as well though not while playing ICC games. There is also an openings study view and PGN can be opened in this view. All played games are logged and in game lists there is a save too PGN option. In the Openings Study view, Stockfish is available.
Tips for using it the first time
Users can go to the Lists tab and chose the seek graph or seek list to find a chess game. Hollow circles on graph are unrated and may play guests. Another option for members is going to the Board tab's menu and entering an auto pairing pool. On Lists tab there are choices to watch high rated games going on, broadcast games and current listing of ICC videos to watch as well.
There are two main menus in the program. One is on first tab's console next to typing area with things like re-connect and change font size and the other is on board tab with all game and board settings.
If the user gets a private message ( yellow color), hit the f9 button(near typing area on Con tab) to respond.
If the user moves a channel out of con to chan1 or chan2 tabs then they won't have to type tell (channel number). Guests can't join ICC channels but members can.
There is sound on the board tab menu. If users don't want sound, disable it on board tab's menu and it will save the setting.
