Welcome to the IRI Measurement application!
The condition of the bicycle lanes is among the most frequently cited criticisms by both recreational and everyday cyclists. Therefore, an automated measurement tool that is as objective as possible is needed in order to evaluate the surface condition of bicycle lanes. In recent years, various evaluation metrics for measuring surface roughness have been proposed. One of them is the International Roughness Index (IRI). The research paper Zang et al. (2018, https://www.mdpi.com/1424-8220/18/3/914) assessed road surface roughness by calculating the IRI based on GPS and Accelerometer sensors on bicycle-mounted smartphones, which was implemented here. Furthermore, more data is collected than currently used in the analysis (pressure, humidity and so on…) to allow later expansion with additional parameters. Please note, since this application is approximating the calculation of the IRI values, the results obtained may not fit the range of values used in the literature and thus may not fit the usual classification of values. Please be extremely careful while using this application, do not get distracted by it, do not operate it while driving and always pay attention to the surrounding traffic!
