The "Parchium" app was created with the aim of creating a parallel journey to discover the history of the Valley of the Temples, which not only takes into account the historical-artistic aspects, but focuses on the protection interventions that have contributed to the creation of the very idea of the Park. This is where archival documentation plays a fundamental role, which is an integral part of the history of archaeological activities and conservation and protection interventions. The documents preserved in the State Archives of Agrigento do not tell us about the Valley of the Temples from the point of view of the history of the excavations and archaeological analysis, but speak of actions, men, stories and interventions in favor of the safeguarding and protection of heritage. cultural.
The visits to the Park and the points of interest proposed on this app are therefore the result of the analysis and selection of the precious archive documentation, which offers the opportunity for a different reading of the Valley of the Temples based on the important events concerning the conservation and protection of the area. It is a journey that goes from the beginning of the nineteenth century, with the awareness of the importance of these ancient testimonies, up to the first thirty years of the twentieth century. From here on, that awareness and assumption of responsibility that led, in 1997, to the inclusion of the Valley of the Temples in the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites becomes common history.
Through the discovery of an interactive and geo-localized path, you will be able to discover an unpublished story of the heritage of the Valley of the Temples, and enrich the visit experience through archival stories related to the main monuments of the Park.
