HISTORICAL CONTEXT
The city of Ilhéus is one of the oldest in Brazil, and also one of the most beautiful. Its riches, in natural beauty and in human warmth, make it one of the best known names in the national tourist route. With agriculture as its main economic focuses, mainly with the cultivation of cocoa, and tourism – its population, of around 184 thousand inhabitants, is also proud of being the “Land of Gabriela”, the eternal muse of writer Jorge Amado. And it is here, in this paradisiacal setting, that the Meira Supermarkets Network has been installed since 1990, comprising 7 stores in Ilhéus and 2 in Itabuna.
