Teclado ITAmix Description
This app installs and provides instructions to enable a keyboard called “Teclado ITAmix”. After enabling the keyboard, it helps you select it as the system keyboard (to be able to write in any other app, such as WhatsApp, Gmail, etc.). After following the instructions in the app, you can tap any space for text entry, and you will see the Mixtec keyboard.
This version includes keys that are needed to write in Spanish as well. The letters used to write Mixtec appear on normal-sized keys, and the letters needed only to write Spanish loanwords appear on smaller keys.
The most-used symbols for writing in Mixtec that are not easily found on a typical Spanish keyboard are
- the tones, which are available on this keyboard by long-pressing each vowel,
- the saltillo (Ꞌ), which is available on a key next to the “m”,
- non-breaking hyphen (to connect pronouns with their root), which are available by long-pressing the hyphen.
Although some functions of this keyboard (such as spelling-correction or word-suggestion) are specifically configured for the way Mixtec is spoken in Coicoyán de las Flores (jmx), the keyboard's design also allows it to be used in other communities who write Mixtec a little differently. So in some cases there are options that are not used in the (jmx) variant. For example, there are two forms of the letter “i”: crossed (ɨ) and normal.
