W3DT eTrack Description
W3DT eTrack is a tool to revive the ancestral art of tracking by using current technologies for the benefit of nature and indigenous trackers. W3DT eTrack enables the recording of animal tracks and signs.
Following a simple protocol, the user takes five pictures for each track or sign to enable the future digital 3D reconstruction. The geo-tagged eTrack record contains all relevant information linked to the animal that produced the track or sign.
Additional information can also be added for the substrate, as well as pictures of the species or the individual.
A global community of eTrackers can share their information, therefore, creating a network of citizen scientists and indigenous trackers.
Future developments of the App will enable automatic identification of the tracks and signs by using 3D computer vision and AI. Thus, opening the way for innovative non-invasive horizons in the field of biomonitoring, human-wildlife conflict, and anti-poaching, while preserving indigenous knowledge and creating environmental education.
