I've wanted a Zune-like music app for a long time. However, at the moment it has issues that make the app next to useless for me. I almost always play from playlists with the music arranged in a very specific order, but there is no function to allow music in a playlist to be rearranged. So if I want to alternate between two artists in a playlist, I have to go back and forth between those artists and add one song at a time. Highly inefficient and time-consuming. Additionally, if you add a whole album to a playlist, the songs sometimes won't be added in the original order. It's not in alphabetical order either, so I have no idea what its criteria is for deciding what order to place the songs in. (In one particular case, the last two songs of an album were always placed first, and the rest of the album was in the correct order.) So again, you have to add songs one at a time. I couldn't play a playlist from the main playlist menu; it said all playlists were empty. I had to go into the playlist itself to play it. After using the playlists just fine for a few weeks, all were suddenly empty. Then after a little more time, the playlists themselves were gone. Apparently this issue has since been fixed, but given how long it took to make the playlists, because of being forced to add songs one at a time, I don't want to take the time to make them all over again. Last, even if I decide to forgo the playlist altogether and play from the artist menu, the albums don't play in the order displayed, and there's no ability to tell the app what order to play the albums in. This could be solved with playlists, if the playlists worked, but they don't. I'm really discouraged from using the app, which sucks seeing as I paid for it. (Not much, but still.) If and when the issues are solved, I will update this review. I still would love to have a Zune-style player, so I'm not giving up hope just yet. Also, just a suggestion, it would be much, much easier if the app simply supported Zune playlists, as I still use Zune on my desktop.
ZPlayer has the most interesting user interface on a music player that I have ever seen. The app works great, you can watch videos, listen to podcasts, radio, and local music files. My only complaint is that there is no option to sort artists by album artist and a few of the Zune animations are absent. Aside from that, ZPlayer is a very impressive music player that features an interface similar to Microsofts Zune and it looks great, even in 2022.
Still the best app if you miss the beautiful layout and organization of the Windows Phone and Zune. It hasn't been updated or worked on in years, but still works well on Android 9. I'm hoping someone takes the reins, but I'll be running this until that happens or until it stops working. Edit: was recently updated to support Android 10+. After searching for a replacement prior to the update, I can still say this is my favourite audio player on Android, and the bug fixes only solidified that.
