I love the user interface, esp. the home page and PIP, but currently there are lots of bugs, some of which are... 1) Keeps crashing if I try to load a video playlist. 2) After playing something in the background, sometimes the track freezes when I return to it. 3) Couldn't play .mkv video files which I was able to play easily with MX Player. 4) Search function under "Music" doesn't search within subfolders. Most issues seem to be related to handling of video files. Great that there are no ads and the app generally has a lot of potential. Could become a top app in its area if the bugs are fixed.
Does NOT play .mkv to Chromecast. Which is all I needed it for. Also froze twice while trying to navigate through it's UI. I am not happy with an app that makes it aggravatingly difficult to shut the app totally off. You can swipe the app away but the content still plays with no exit option. No helpful videos or tutorials. Lame. If you want to compete with VLC or MX, for $5 you better have a responsive UI, a "Total" product that works, some helpful instructions or videos and well...
The Player stubbornly asks for the permission to "manage phone calls" - "reading the phone state" is supposedly necessary to prevent problems when receiving calls - which is highly questionable. MX Player Pro is happy with storage access permission only and I have never ever had problems receiving calls while playing videos/music. It simply pauses. After the call is ended you normally resume. Be warned.
