The Barbarian is one of the best Damage Dealers in the game. After the Crusader, it has the most AoE damage and is the tankiest class in the game. As such, here is a completely comprehensive guide for the Barbarian, including skill builds used by professionals. If you haven’t already, you can download Diablo Immortal for PC using LDPlayer.
The Barbarian is the tankiest class in Diablo Immortal. It deals a lot of AoE damage and is one of the best melee classes in the game. The Barbarian sustains a lot of damage and is used by tons of professional players of the game.
The class is also excellent for PvP and PvE, with all the class's skills being useful in different situations. Plus, you get good upgrades with all your legendary pieces, which further signify the importance of the class.
Launches a frenzied attack for 2096 damage. Each hit increases Frenzy’s Attack Speed by 8% for 3 seconds, stacking up to 5 times.
Enhance Frenzy for 12 seconds, allowing movement while attacking and unhindered movement through enemies, granting Stun immunity and increasing attack speed as if fully stacked.
Frenzy doesn’t do a lot of crazy splash damage. There is nothing too insane or swiping action but remember you can just hold down the attack button, and in doing that, it will continue to attack. There is no need to spam the button over and over again.
Launches a series of attacks that deal 2261 to 3256 damage with each hit. Every third hit heals you for 15% of the damage done.
Enhance Lacerate for 12 seconds, increasing its healing to 20% of the damage done on each attack, increasing its range, and causing every third attack to knock enemies away. You also gain a shield that absorbs damage equal to 20% of your maximum life for 3 seconds.
Holding the attack button works the same with Lacerate. It has more of a wide range, and it is a more cosmetically appealing attack. However, both work relatively the same. In the end, it is down to your personal preference since there isn’t a lot of difference between these two primary attacks.
Hurl three chained spears that deal 1592 damage and then return, dragging impaled enemies back to you and dealing another 398 damage.
With this skill, you throw out a bunch of spears that drags them back towards you where you can assault them with other abilities or your primary. You can direct it in any direction you want. They all can be modified with the gold inscription.
Unleash a powerful attack that deals 2038 damage to all enemies in front of you and causes them to bleed for 2040 damage over 3 seconds—a maximum of 3 charges.
The Cleave has you slice through enemies in splash damage. You have three uses of it before it needs to cool down. So, it is not just a single-use.
Release a ferocious shout that forces nearby monsters to attack you. It also deals 1440 damage to all nearby enemies and reduces their damage done by 30%. Lasts 8 seconds.
Demoralize is going to make all enemies around you come and attack you bringing them closer in so you can smash them with other skills. It also deals some damage as well and is great for bringing creatures close to you. There is a cooldown period, however, that you have to deal with.
Charge forward, knocking away all enemies in your path and dealing 2403 damage—maximum three charges. Players may only be affected once every 3 seconds by this skill.
The skill is self-explanatory. You charge at and through your enemies. You can direct it any way you want, and it has a relatively respectable charge. It can also be a way to evade people since it has a good point so you can get out in the other direction.
Stomp the ground, Stunning nearby enemies for up to 1.5 seconds and dealing 2374 damage and charging longer, increases range and duration up to 3 seconds.
You stomp the ground, doing damage and stunning opponents. Remember, these can be modified based on the gems and gear that you have equipped. So, even if the skill might not seem extremely powerful, you can modify skills to make them extremely powerful.
Some of these skills you are able to hold down for greater damage, including Ground Stomp. The skill itself is directional. But, the skill has a 10-second cooldown which is quite high. It is a decent skill.
Call forth a massive hammer that smashes enemies in front of you for 2795 damage and shakes the earth itself, dealing 556 additional damage over 2 seconds.
If you have some gear equipped, you can spawn an extra Barbarian with you. We recommend using this skill, especially if you have the gear to spawn an extra Barbarian.
Spirit of the Ancients Inscription: Hammer of the Ancients now summons a Spirit of the Ancients who stuns all nearby enemies and then fights beside you for a while.
This is one of the best skills for the Barbarian. But, make sure you find the gear first so that you can get that Barbarian. Not only does it use the Hammer, but it also spawns the BBarbarian who fights for you and deals tons of damage. However, the Barbarian does not use any skills and mainly deals with single target damage.
The skill itself has a 30-second cooldown, but the summon lasts for 20 seconds. The Barbarian also aggro towards you and follows you around.
Leap to a location dealing 2388 damage to all nearby enemies when you land and reducing their movement speed by 50% for 4 seconds. Each full life enemy struck by Leap will reduce the cooldown by 1 second.
All the pros love Leap. You should jump into a battle and then use your Hammer to deal tons of damage. When you find a group of enemies, you should leap in and start using your skills and Leap. The Leap alone does tons of damage and is more beneficial when you go inside more enemy units.
Increase your movement speed by 50% for 4.5 seconds. While active, you may move unhindered through enemies, and you are immune to movement-impairing effects.
We don’t use this skill a lot since the Barbarian is a Melee class, and we do not recommend running away with him as the class is more DPS reliant rather than one that evades and dodges. However, the skill is quite nice when you are trying to get somewhere and has a quick cool down which means you can sprint over and over again.
Become a whirlwind of steel, continually striking all nearby enemies for 768 damage while moving at 70% reduced speed. Using Whirlwind slowly consumes its energy which recovers while Whirlwind is not in use.
You can’t play the Barbarian without Whirlwind. It is a brutal skill. Plus, if you have gear on you, you can deal more damage in a certain area. It is just a circular attack where you just spin around with your weapons wielding, and you deal a bunch of damage. The cool thing about Whirlwind is that it does not really have a set cooldown time. You can use it, finish it up and then two seconds later, use it again; however, it won’t last very long. But you don't need to wait for a long cooldown at all.
Enter a berserker rage that increases your attack speed by 50% and movement speed by 20% for a 6.5 second.
The skill increases your attack and movement speed for a respectable amount of time. So, you are not attacking for a stronger attack, but you are attacking twice at first. This ability is really incredible, especially when you save it for some bosses. All it's doing is it makes you attack faster and faster. The skill, however, does have a 20 second cool down.
So, the skills we use are:
When it comes to a skill combination, you should leap onto a battle, Whirlwind onto mobs, then use your Hammer of the ancients. No matter how difficult or easy your opponents are, you can deal with them the same way by leaping, bringing down the Hammer, whirlwinding through, and if it does get difficult, you can use Wrath of the Berserker as well.
The Barbarian is one of the most versatile classes in the game and thus offers tons of versatility for those who wish to gear the class up in the best way possible. Each Legendary item mentioned down below adds a Skill Modifier to the class that makes it much more powerful. For most individuals, we recommend going for Sellena’s Iron if you are able to get your hands on them.
Tier: S Tier
Rarity: Legendary
Damage: 538
Skill Modifier: Leap causes the ground to shake where you land, dealing X damage to all enemies in the area over 3 seconds.
Explanation: The item is perhaps the best piece of equipment for the Barbarian. It allows you to use your Leap which is one of the best abilities the class has to deal tons of damage. By getting this weapon, you can turn the Barbarian into an AoE powerhouse.
Tier: S Tier
Rarity: Legendary
Damage: 538
Skill Modifier: Stormbringer: Whirlwind radius increased, but Whirlwind movement speed reduced.
Explanation: The Tempest is another one of the best weapons the Barbarian can equip. However, its skill modifier is quite underwhelming as compared to The Tempest. Therefore, we recommend going for Selena's Iron in most cases. However, if you do end up using Stormbringer, going for the Whirlwind Radius does provide you with more range which is great if you go for a more AoE-focused build.
Tier: A Tier
Rarity: Legendary
Skill Modifier:
Damage: 463
Item Modifier: Lacerate now inflicts Bleeding that deals X damage over X seconds.
Explanation: Since Lacerate is already quite powerful, applying Bleed is not really extremely helpful especially since the Barbarian lacks in other skills. But, if you can’t find any other item, Rending Bite definitely isn’t a bad pick up. However, we do recommend grinding for the S Tier items if possible.
Tier: A Tier
Rarity: Legendary
Skill Modifier: Broad Sweep Inscription: Cleave now strikes in a full circle around you.
Damage: 398
Explanation: Svot’s Reach is extremely situational. If you feel like you lack AoE damage and have plenty of single target DPS, the Cleave can be an absolute life saver as it helps translate most of that damage into other units as well. However, since the Barbarian naturally goes for more AoE based skills, there’s a very low chance that the Cleave might end up proving to be beneficial.
Tier: C Tier
Rarity: Legendary
Skill Modifier: Cruelty inscription: Wrath of the Berserker now increases Critical Hit Chance instead of Attack Speed.
Damage: 161
Explanation: The item helps increase your single target DPS by a small margin. The critical strike can be quite underwhelming at times especially because the chance increase isn’t all that great. You also do end up missing out on Attack Speed which you will need to supplement with another item.
Tier: C Tier
Rarity: Legendary
Skill Modifier: Demoralize duration increased by 30%.
Damage: 137
Explanation: A 30% increase on Demoralize isn’t all that great especially because the skill isn’t heavily used. However, the item may bump up in the Tier List especially if Fearhammer suddenly turns into a viable skill. However, as it stands, you won’t be using Demoralize all that often anyways.
Tier: D Tier
Rarity: Legendary
Skill Modifier: Chained Spear hurls 2 additional spears.
Damage: 67
Explanation: Having two additional spears in Chained Spear might seem quite over-powered but it doesn’t do much to the overall AoE CC the class has. While they may be situationally helpful in some cases, you are better off without them.
Tier: D Tier
Rarity: Legendary
Skill Modifier: Empowered Hammer Inscription: The range and damage of Hammer of the Ancients can now be increased by charging it up.
Damage: 64
Explanation: Charging up the Razorgrip can be absolutely fatal in some cases. You won’t be getting a lot of value out of the item in terms of its overall damage and the fact that you will need to wait for your Hammer to be charged. Plus, the damage increase after charging up isn’t all the great.
Tier: D Tier
Rarity: Legendary
Skill Modifier: Spirit of the Ancients Inscription: Hammer of the Ancients now summons a Spirit of the Ancients who stuns all nearby enemies and then fights beside you for a while.
Damage: 64
Explanation: The Spirit does not last enough for a long enough duration to be useful. Plus, the spirit does not deal a lot of damage either. So, we recommend not picking this item up.
Tier: D Tier
Rarity: Legendary
Skill Modifier: Enemies killed by Cleave will explode, inflicting 270 damage on all nearby enemies.
Damage: 64
Explanation: 270 damage to nearby enemies is quite underwhelming in most cases. Therefore, the item is generally not recommended.
Here’s a list of all the Armor Pieces that can be worn by the Barbarian. Each of these provides a unique skill effect modifier to one of the skills that the Barbarian has. Each of these items is then rated by their rarity, the amount of value they provide, and if their skill modifiers are worth it or not.
Tier: S Tier
Rarity: Legendary
Skill Modifier: Avalanche: Chained Spear now hurls giant rocks, inflicting damage on all enemies in its path.
Life: 5388
Equipment Slot: Torso
Explanation: Extremely powerful item that takes your most powerful skills on steroids. With the ability to hurl giant rocks, you deal tons more of AoE damage and can absolutely thrash enemies who are picked up by your spears reducing the amount of time you need to auto attack and kill them. This item alone can greatly boost your farming speed.
Tier: S Tier
Rarity: Legendary
Skill Modifier: Hammer of the Ancients maximum charges increased by 1.
Life: 5388
Equipment Slot: Torso
Explanation: Hammer of the Ancients is one of the best skills for the Barbarian. Therefore, with the ability to increase your charges, you should be able to deal a lot more damage in a shorter period of time. This is why Darvin’s Legacy is one of the best items for the Barbarian. However, we do recommend making sure that you actually spam your skill, Hammer of the Ancients to take full advantage of it.
Tier: S Tier
Rarity: Legendary
Skill Modifier: Whirlwind occasionally throws out tornadoes that deal X damage to any enemies they strike.
Life: 5388
Equipment Slot: Torso
Explanation: While the description of the item may seem under whelming, it actually is quite overpowered as the Tornado acts as a great disruption in the midst of a fight. Plus, the chance for you to get a Tornado out is quite respectable which means that there’s a high chance that a Tornado will spawn if you use the skill. It deals a lot of damage and acts as a great distraction.
Tier: S Tier
Rarity: Legendary
Skill Modifier: Whirlwind pulls in all enemies it damages.
Life: 4308
Equipment Slot: Torso
Explanation: If you are a fan of Whirlwind, the item is a must-have. Plus, since it brings in all enemies together, you can chain combo Whirlwind up with other close-ranged AoE abilities to deal massive amounts of damage.
Tier: A Tier
Rarity: Legendary
Skill Modifier: Empowered Charge: Furious Charge can now be charged up to increase its range and damage.
Life: 1796
Equipment Slot: Leg
Explanation: As explained above with a previous item, Charging up is not always extremely useful. However, since Furious Charge can also be used as a dodge, it does have its merits as you can end up going for the further range which lets you escape dire situations in an enhanced manner.
Tier: A Tier
Rarity: Legendary
Skill Modifier: Leap damage increased by 10%.
Life: 1796
Equipment Slot: Leg
Explanation: Leap’s damage increase leads to a significant increase in DPS. However, we recommend going for this item only if you have a very solid combo setup that takes advantage of your Leap. Otherwise, you are wasting a slot.
Tier: A Tier
Rarity: Legendary
Skill Modifier: Gangway: Sprint now causes you to run continuously, knocking away and damaging enemies in your path.
Life: 1796
Equipment Slot: Leg
Explanation: Being able to sprint away from situations while also running continuously is an absolute must have for those who want to stay mobile as a Barbarian. While it does not deal a lot of damage which is why its in the A Tier, is still does have its merits especially in smaller maps where you can constantly knock enemies around by just running around them.
Tier: A Tier
Rarity: Legendary
Skill Modifier: Empowered Stomp: Ground Stomp now affects all nearby enemies and can be charged to increase range and damage.
Life: 1796
Equipment Slot: Leg
Explanation: Once again, as mentioned earlier, charged skills are definitely not the best. However, do they have their merits. In this case, being able to Ground Stop with a charge that increases Range allows you to deal damage further away which means mobs that are quite far away from you can end up getting aggro’d allowed for more efficient combos.
Tier: F Tier
Rarity: Legendary
Skill Modifier: Empowered Leap: Leap can now charge up to increase range and damage.
Life: 179
Equipment Slot: Shoulder
Explanation: Being able to charge your leap is generally not necessary since it is primarily used as an initiation. Plus, the damage increase is underwhelming and doesn’t do a lot for you in most cases.
Tier: F Tier
Rarity: Legendary
Skill Modifier: War Cry: Demoralize is replaced with a war cry that increases all damage you and nearby allies inflict.
Life: 179
Equipment Slot: Head
Explanation: The War Cry is great for times when you go dungeon raiding with a party. However, it really isn’t helpful in solo battles. It does not provide you with a lot of Life and the damage increase can be underwhelming at times especially compared to other items on the list.
Tier: F Tier
Rarity: Legendary
Skill Modifier: Skill damage increased by 3% Terrifying Roar: Demoralize is replaced with a terrifying roar that damages all nearby enemies and Immobilizes.
Life: 179
Equipment Slot: Head
Explanation: The Roar while it may seem extremely powerful does not really do a lot of damage and is quite underwhelming in most cases. Therefore, we recommend going for this item only if you have nothing else.
Tier: F Tier
Rarity: Legendary
Skill Modifier: Sprint also increases your dodge chance by 20%.
Life: 5388
Equipment Slot: Shoulder
Explanation: Sprint is already quite underused in your general kit. Getting only a 20% dodge chance is downright ludicrous and does not mean much to you especially since the Attack Speed of mobs in the game is quite high. So, you won’t be missing out on a lot of damage and will not be feeling the difference in most cases.
Tier: F Tier
Rarity: Legendary
Skill Modifier: Cleave range increased by 20%.
Life: 0
Equipment Slot: Shoulder
Explanation: A 20% range increase on a cleave that is already quite good does not achieve a lot. The Barbarian already has a good cleave and does not need more range. So, you won’t be benefiting from this item a lot.
Tier: F Tier
Rarity: Legendary
Skill Modifier: Skill damage increased by 2% Wrath of the Berserker duration increased by 30%.
Life: 179
Equipment Slot: Head
Explanation: A 2% Skill Damage increase is negligible and does not amount to anything. Therefore, you are better off with another item in most cases.
Tier: F Tier
Rarity: Legendary
Skill Modifier: Merciless Assault: Furious Charge now charges to a location, damaging all nearby enemies and knocking them into the air.
Explanation: The damage is quite negligible, the knock-up is not all that great and the skill works better without the charge mechanic.
Life: 0
Equipment Slot: Leg
Tier: F Tier
Rarity: Legendary
Skill Modifier: Critical Hit Chance increased by 3% Sprint duration increased by 30%.
Life: 179
Equipment Slot: Torso
Explanation: The critical hit chance increasing by 3% is an absolute joke in most scenarios. However, the Sprint Duration increase can be useful in some cases. But, you can find items that provide you with much better mobility and better stats as well.
Tier: F Tier
Rarity: Legendary
Skill Modifier: Sprint also leaves tornadoes in your path that deal X damage to any enemies they strike.
Life: 0
Equipment Slot: Head
Explanation: Underwhelming tornadoes that do not deal a lot of damage. However, they do act for great distractions. But, since you won’t be using Sprint a lot anyways and it has quite a low duration with a high cool-down, the modifier can feel useless at times.
Tier: F Tier
Rarity: Legendary
Skill Modifier: Wrath of the Berserker cooldown reduced by 15%.
Life: 179
Equipment Slot: Torso
Explanation: Wrath of the Berserker already has a negligible cooldown. Adding a 15% reduction on top of that really doesn’t do much. So, you are better off with other items.
Tier: S Tier
Rarity: Legendary
Skill Modifier: Whirlwind damage increased by 10%.
Life: 179
Equipment Slot: Shoulder
Explanation: A 10% increase barely makes a difference on the Class. You are much better off with another item that is able to provide you with a greater amount of sustenance.
