How to Play - Anemo

The Anemo element is one of the game’s 7 major elements and one of the initial 6 elements that was introduced in the first launch of the game. With the upcoming release of patch 3.3, Anemo will receive one of its major changes in gameplay and receive a dedicated buffer in the form of Faruzan.

The Anemo Element is the game’s go to element for crowd control in the game, having the ability to pull, push and gather enemies together to help other allies deal damage to the entire group of enemies at the same time in addition to shredding the enemies elemental resistances. This makes the element highly favorable for all players in the game.

In addition, the Anemo element is the most flexible and useful element to use in world exploration with their various abilities to help with fast travel like flying, gliding, high jumps and decrease stamina cost, making the element a valuable asset to have in world explorations outside of combat.

Anemo primarily provides various types of buffs and crowd control abilities to the whole team, therefore, the element heavily relies on Energy Recharge and Elemental Mastery for the characters’ abilities

Elemental Reactions

Despite being an element that provides one of the best utility and help other elements trigger elemental reactions, Anemo only have 1 major Elemental Reaction - Swirl

Swirl is an elemental reaction that triggers when Anemo skills come into contact with enemies or environments that have the Pyro, Cryo, Electro or Hydro elements, dealing an additional instance of Anemo damage to enemies affected by the skill and reducing their elemental reaction resistance. The damage dealt by swirl is proportional to the Anemo characters’ Elemental Mastery and can not crit, making it a very viable supplemental elemental reaction to help with damage but won’t be one of the primary focus of a team consisting of Elemental reactions damage.

A thing to note with Anemo characters is that many of their skills will trigger an Infuse state. This state triggers when the skill absorbs one of the 4 elements - Pyro, Cryo, Hydro and Electro - making the skill have the characteristic of those elements and automatically trigger Swirl when the skill comes into contact with the enemies.

Finally, Infuse has a priority when coming into contact with the 4 elements and will absorb the element with the highest priority first. The priority is as follows: Pyro > Hydro > Electro > Cryo.

How Should You Play Anemo

Anemo is one of the most versatile elements in the game and is welcomed in almost all team comps thanks to its utility in crowd controlling the enemies and debuffing them with reduced elemental damage resistance down. This makes it so that Anemo is used in almost all meta teams in the game, some of the most famous teams includes:

- National team: 1 Anemo (Kazuha/Venti) + Xiangling + Bennett + Xingqiu

One of the most famous teams in Genshin Impact history, the national team allows players to deal massive damage to enemies using the Pyro element and the Vaporize reaction triggered by the 2 Pyro characters and supplied by Xingqiu. Bringing along an Anemo character that specializes in crowd control like Venti or Kazuha ensures that this team would be able to deal damage to all enemies at the same time in addition to dealing more damage thanks to the elemental resistance reduction. In addition, the extra damage from Swirl reaction and Infuse skills will help with keeping the damage uptime consistent and easy to use.

- Freeze team : 1 Anemo + 2 Cryo + 1 Hydro

This team comp has been covered in the Hydro article of this guide series, for a better look at how this comp works, players can check the article out for more information.

- Taser team: 1 Anemo (Heizou/Wanderer) + Beidou + 2 Hydro (or 1 Hydro + 1 Electro)

The brand new comp used exclusively for the brand new type of brawler Anemo catalyst users that specializes in dealing close range Anemo and Swirl damage, this team allow the characters to fully unleashes their punches and deal massive amount of Electro, Hydro and Anemo damage at the same time thanks to the help of Electro-charged and Swirl reactions. This comp is extremely suitable for Anemo DPS characters like Heizou and the upcoming Wanderer but requires an invested Beidou in order to work.

In terms of Artifacts, the normal Anemo characters make heavy use of the Viridescent Venerer artifact set that increases Anemo damage and reduces enemies' Elemental Resistance. For newer DPS Anemo characters like Heizou and Wanderer, the brand new Desert Pavilion Chronicle set will boost their Anemo normal attack damage and attack speed immensely.

Top Anemo Characters to Use/Pull For

No.5 Jean

Jean is a 5* Anemo sword user that is available for all players to summon from the standard banner and can spook players when they attempt to roll for time limited characters.

Jean is a character that specializes in healing the entire team with her skills and normal attacks, the healing amount proportional to her attack stat. She is a very interesting character to use with her hold ability able to suck enemies into an controllable vortex and just yeet them away, dealing Anemo damage and making enemies take fall damage.

Unlike other Anemo characters, Jean is more of a hybrid Anemo/ Physical damage dealer depending on how players use her.

No.4 Heizou / Wanderer

The new unique melee Anemo options for the element, Heizou/ Wanderer are good options for main DPS in the Anemo elements and primarily deal damage using their normal attacks.

For these characters, players should prioritize dealing damage with them using their normal attacks instead of using their Anemo abilities to trigger Swirl reactions.

No.3 Xiao

Another interesting case of the main Anemo DPS option, Xiao relies heavily on his ability to plunge and attack all enemies on his way down, dealing massive amounts of Anemo damage to them.

When using Xiao, players should pay attention to have a good Energy battery and healer to go with him as his ultimate skill will drain his HP bar faster than he takes damage from enemies.

No.2 Venti

The Anemo Archon and the first ever Limited 5*, Venti has not fallen off the utility and gameplay spectrum all over his years in the game. With his vortex and the ability to fly, Venti allows players to crowd control massive crowds of smaller enemies and deal with them quickly.

No.1 Kaedehara Kazuha

Even stronger than the Anemo Archon himself, Kazuha is the best Anemo character in the game by far, as suggested by his amazing utility and his impressive usage stats in the spiral abyss and all contents in the game.

Kazuha’s versatile kit allows him to not only crowd control a massive amount of enemies at once, dealing plunge damage to them, but also buffing the entire team’s Elemental Damage proportional to his Elemental Mastery and reduces all enemies Elemental Resistance. Truly an all in one package of an amazing Anemo Character for all of the players’ needs.
