Let’s play Genshin Impact on PC and find out together.
The Cryo element is one of the game’s 7 major elements and one of the initial 6 elements that was introduced in the first launch of the game. Since its initial release, Cryo has consistently been one of the best elements in the game (alongside Pyro) for damage potential and elemental reactions power and utility.
The Cryo Element specializes in inflicting enemies with the Cryo elemental mark, enabling other elements to utilize this mark to deal damage ( in the case of Pyro) or to freeze the enemies in place ( in the case of Hydro) or even to enhances the power of non-elemental damage ( in the case of Electro). In other circumstances, Cryo itself can take advantage of these elemental reactions, allowing for high damage and good utility options on the battlefield.
Cryo primarily provides the team with Critical based stat boosts like Critical Chance and Critical Damage to enhance their own damage output and the entire team’s damage output.
Cryo is extremely reactive with other elements, with the best 3 reactions being Melt (Cryo + Pyro) for damage output, Frozen (Cryo + Hydro) for battlefield utility and Superconduct ( Cryo + Electro) for enhancing physical damage overall. While Cryo can also react with Anemo for the swirl and infusion reactions, since the priority for infusing Cryo is extremely low, it is not worth using this reaction in most cases unless players have practiced using the team.
- Melt (Cryo + Pyro): Melt triggers when Cryo comes into contact with the Pyro element or enemies inflicted with the freeze mark or the Frozen status. When Melt is triggered, the Pyro damage dealt will be increased by a whopping 2.5 times, massively enhancing the damage dealt. Alternatively, it can also enhance the Cryo damage by 2.0 times, by initiating reverse-melt.
- Frozen ( Cryo + Hydro): Frozen triggers automatically when Hydro comes into contact with the Cryo element, making enemies immovable and unable to act, freezing them in place. This reaction has a set duration that can be increased proportional to the Elemental Mastery stat of the Cryo user, however, in general, this reaction only serves as a utility option to help stop enemies from attacking and to help initiate the Melt reaction.
Cryo is one of the most powerful elements in terms of damage output in the game and is extremely useful for crowd controlling ability, making it an extremely powerful element to have. There’s 2 major teams where Cryo is used most - Melt teams and Freeze teams.
- Melt team: 2 Cryo + 2 Pyro (1 Main DPS + Bennett)
This team focuses primarily on the damage output capable of being dealt by triggering the Melt reaction and taking advantage of both Elemental Resonance from Pyro and Cryo, enhancing the team’s critical stats and attack stats. In this team, players should pay attention to applying the Cryo element first before using the Pyro skills to trigger the Melt reaction.
- Freeze Team: 1 Anemo (Venti / Kazuha) + 2 Cryo (Rosaria / Shenhe + another) + 1 Hydro
This team focuses on completely immobilizing the enemies by utilizing the frozen elemental reactions on the enemy, crowd controlling them, making them unable to move or act and deal massive amounts of Cryo elemental damage to them while they are incapacitated. It is important to note that energy is important for this team for spamming skills so players should pay attention to the Energy Recharge stat when using this team.
In terms of Artifacts, Cryo characters’ most powerful set of artifacts is the Blizzard Strayer set which enhances Cryo elements further and helps increase the critical stats of Cryo characters. Other sets of artifacts Cryo characters can use are the Emblem of Severed Fate Set or Noblesse Oblige.
Top Cryo Characters to Use/Pull For
The only outlier in this Cryo roster, Eula is a 5* Claymore user that specializes in not dealing Cryo damage but instead dealing massive bursts of Physical damage.
She is famous for being the best physical damage dealer in the game and can completely burst down the enemy in 1 ultimate when she’s used correctly. Her Ultimate greats a massive sword that builds up damage overtime, and if timed right, can deal massive explosive damage to enemies surrounding her. Eula primarily only uses her skill to initiate the Superconduct reaction to help enhance her physical damage output.
Rosaria is a 4* Polearm user that specializes in buffing the entire team with critical related buffs based on her critical stats. Her fast skills and large ranged ultimate make it so that she can apply the Cryo status for a big group of enemies and buff the team’s combat prowess at the same time.
Shenhe is a 5* Polearm user that is essentially an upgraded version of Rosaria that specializes in buffing Cryo damage output specifically instead.
Her skill and ultimate grants the entire team quill marks that enhance Cryo damage massively when other members use their skill, making her an extremely powerful Cryo buffer.
Ayaka is a 5* Sword user that has the unique ability of infusing her normal attacks with the Cryo element whenever she uses her special dash, making all of her abilities deal Cryo damage instead of Physical damage.
Ayaka’s primary strength comes from her extremely powerful stat line and abilities which deal massive amounts of damage and have practically 100% uptime for Cryo application, allowing her to constantly initiate reactions such as Melt and Freeze when she’s on the team. She’s one of the best DPS options in the game for both her utility and damage potential.
The coco-goat herself, Ganyu is a 5* bow user that completely breaks the game wide open as a DPS character with her powerful charge attacks and the ability to enhance her cryo damage even further with the Melt reaction.
Ganyu’s charge attacks are essentially nukes when attacking Pyro marked enemies, allowing her to deal massive amounts of damage with little to no investment in her kit. In addition, her Ultimate makes a massive Cryo field on the battlefield, helping to enable reactions such as Melt and Freeze easier.
