Honkai Star Rail Gameplay

Since the Honkai Star Rail brings unique game mechanics to the table you will get to enjoy a more refined gaming experience rather than the same old gameplay. Even though you can not fight every enemy you see and climb every tree. The game allows you to explore the map and choose which enemies to fight first and what to ignore.

Speed and Turn Order

If you have not played any turn-based games, the simple mechanism based on character stat is known as speed. All your characters and your enemies have a certain speed value before the battle starts. According to this stat, who will attack first will be decided. If your heroes have high-speed value, you will go first; if not, you will have to wait until you get your turn.

Other than the base speed of each character, one other thing that affects when your character turns is the buffs you get from using skills and passive skills. For example, there are a few characters like Astra that, when you use their skills, increase the speed of the team or themselves.

Speed and Turn Order

If your team members use their attack first and a few skills that provide speed boost are activated before the enemies use their skills, you have a chance to attack earlier than the enemies attack. To do something like this forcefully, you will have to sacrifice some of your other stats, but if you can arrange a team without losing DPS, building a team with high speed will serve you well.

In your turn, you can do mainly three things, doing normal attacks, using skills, or using the ultimate skill. The normal attack has no cooldown or turns they can be used on, so if you have no other thing normal attack will happen. Skill attacks are the ones you activate by pressing each individual skill; they vary from character to character, and which skill should be used depending on the situation.

The last thing you can do is use the character's ultimate; this skill will not be active at the start of the battle. Its meter fills up as you deal damage. If you have it charged, you can use it even after you use a skill attack.

You need 120 points to recharge your ultimate skill. The basic attack will give 20 energy points, using skills gives energy points 30, using ultimate gives five energy points, and an enemy kill gives you ten energy points. So according to this, if you want to build up your ultimate faster, you have to use skill attacks more often.

Elemental Weakness

The next thing that you should know about is the elemental weakness of the game. The elemental weakness in the Honkai Star Rail is not simple, as the water beats fire and does additional damage. Here you have several elements like fire Physical, fire, ice, lightning, wind, imaginary, and quantum. Your characters and enemies belong to one of these elements. When you are going to attack, the game will indicate which element the enemies are weak against.

If you use that element to attack enemies, you will be able to break the enemy's toughness. You can see the remaining enemy toughness above the health bar of each enemy. Until you remove the toughness, bar your characters will do low damage against it, but as soon as that shield breaks, they will take increased damage from any element and add damage over time effects. So if you want to end the battle faster, you have to remove the toughness by attacking with the corresponding element first.

Elemental Weakness

When you do the shield break, one of the following things happens according to the element used.

  • Physical: The physical attack deals additional physical damage, applies the bleed effect, and deals physical damage over time.

  • Ice: Apply an effect that freezes the target, preventing it from taking any actions while causing ice damage.

  • Wind: inflicting Wind damage and applying the Wind Shear effect, dealing Wind damage to the target(s), and dealing Wind damage to self

  • Fire: Inflicting Fire Damage and the Burn effect, as well as Fire Damage Over Time

  • Lightning: Inflicts Lightning damage while also applying the Shock effect, which causes Lightning damage over time

  • Quantum: Apply the effect of Entanglement, slowing the opponent's activities while causing Quantum damage.

  • Imaginary: applying the Imprisonment effect, which slows down opponent actions and lowers enemy SPD.

Surprise Round

As we said earlier, you get to roam around and choose your battle in Honkai Star Rail. When you get close to one of the enemies, they will start chasing you around. If you manage to attack before they start chasing, you can get a surprise round, but if a chasing enemy catches up to you, they will get the surprise round and advantage in the battle.

When you get the surprise round, you can activate the skill called technique. The technique differs from character to character, and someplace debuff on enemies; some will deal damage, and some will place a buff on themselves. But to use these techniques, you need something called technique stacks.

Initially, you will only have four stacks. When you use one or more techniques in a battle, they will be depleted, and they will regenerate over time. Unlike health, you will not fully regain the stacks when you teleport, so you have to save these stacks to use for really hard battles.

Honkai Star Rail Characters Building

The character-building part has a lot of similarities with other games released by miHoYO. First, you have the character level that can be increased using Exp books. Then you have the skills. Mainly each character has a basic attack, skill, and ultimate skill. When your character reaches ascension level one, you get to level up your skills.

Honkai Star Rail Characters Building

But unlike other games, in the skill upgrade section, you have few options to choose from according to your ascension level. But to choose them, you have to unlock them first. Usually, new skills are blocked by other skills; if you want to unlock a new one that is located at the end of the skill tree, first, you have to unlock all the skills that come before it. Other than the main skills, you can also upgrade your passive skills.

Things to Know About Relics

The next thing in the Honkai Star Rail you have to equip and keep upgraded to make your characters powerful is relics. Each of these relics has a set that they belong to. If you equip a certain number of relics that fall into the same set, you get a set bounce.

For example, if we take the hunter of a glacial forest relic set. If you equip one character with two relics belonging to the hunter of glacial forest relic set, the character's attack will increase by 15%, and if you have four relics, your character will do 30% more skill damage if they are at above 50% HP.

What is Eidolon

When you receive a character, you already have through the summons; you can spend the duplicate to unlock that character's Eidolon. When you unlock a new Eidolon, the character's skills may do increased damage, reduce the cooldown of skill, etc. if you are free to play player, this is something you can ignore because unlocking all the Eidolon of all your character is simply hard to do if you are not doing summons all the time.

Upgrading Weapons

Upgrading Weapons

There are no weapons in the game. If a character comes with the weapon, then that is what they are going to use during all of the battles. Instead, the only form of weapon that the Honkai Star Rail has is known as light cones. You will get them through the gacha system. These light cons are class-based, and they provide the character with HP, Atk, defense, and special effects like increasing damage dealt.

Just like weapons, you can only equip one of them, and you have to level it up by feeding it low-grade items. When you level it up, the stats the light cone provided will increase. If you have three similar light cones in the same grade, you can do Superimposition to add an extra effect to the item.

Paths of Honkai Star Rail

Similar to class mechanics in other games, you can identify each character's job through the paths in Honkai Star Rail. In the character description window, next to their name and element, you will see phrases like Harmony, the Erudition. These are the classes of the Honkai Star Rail

  • The Abundance: characters in this path have the ability to heal the allies.

  • The Destruction: characters in this path are strong when they are alone and deal with enemies up front.

  • The Hunt: character in this path is best at doing single-target damage.

  • The Erudition: character in this path excels at dealing AOE damage.

  • The Harmony: they are a form of support, better at placing debuffs on enemies and boosting allies' skills.

  • The Nihility: they are good at placing debuffs and weakening enemies.

  • The Preservation: character in this path can take a lot of damage and survive longer in battles.

Our last piece of advice for all the new players is to find the best characters in the Honkai Star Rail before you start playing the game. Your success will highly depend on the character you have. You can find the best characters by simply entering the Honkai Star Rail tier list into a search engine. Once you find the best one, you can use the LDPlayer Multi-instance Manager and Multi-instance Sync feature to do the rerolls easily and acquire the best heroes with half the time spent.
