Popular & Award-Winning Romanian Game developing company eRepublik Labs launched their latest game – The Great War Rivals which is now available as early access in several countries. The game is a Historical Strategy game based on World War 1 (WW1).
The company has described the game as – “Accurate historical setting in a cartoony style – learn everything about World War 1”. Those who have already tried out the Beta Version of the game will know that the description is quite apt for the game. It allows you to choose a historical leader such as Kaiser Wilhelm II, Seyit Cabuk, Ernst Junger, Ivan Kolev Stoyanov, Viktoria Savs, and many others from WW1 about their skillset and some other information.
In this article, I will be reviewing “The Great War Rivals” and will try to keep the spoilers to a minimum so that those who haven’t tried the game can also enjoy it. Without further dealy, let’s begin.
As already mentioned above, this is a historical strategy game based on WW1, So as you begin to play the game, you will be asked to choose a side the choices would be – Allied Powers or Central Powers. Now, if you don’t know which side is better, worry not, as you can change the side anytime during the game.
After choosing sides, the game allows you to attack Enemy territories and capture them. This will all be a part of the tutorial the game offers. During the tutorial session, you will be instructed on what you have to do to build your base camp. The tutorials are easy to understand.
After you are done with the tutorials, the real game begins.
I liked the game because it is quite simple and yet interesting. I never thought that tasks such as Building and Upgrading your base camp and saving it from enemy attacks would turn out to be so absorbing. You follow the instructions to take your character to a new level.
You earn rewards for each task completed, and a daily reward is a bonus for that. As you keep on upgrading, you get to unlock new commanders for your army as well. Each leader has his/her own set of skills which you can upgrade and even add new skills by completing tasks.
Each character starts at Private Rank official and adds skills using skill points to work to the General Rank. They all have some unlocked types of equipment, and those which are locked will be unlocked once to reach a certain level. Apart from that, you can create your alliance or join one to fight alongside others.
To fight the enemy and defend your camp, you have to follow certain rules. You can only attack those enemy troops or bandits with the same level as your troop. You begin at level 1. You also get to decide how many men you want to lead this attack with and the troops you want.
You can also train your soldiers in the training camp you set up. Training and attacking will be done with a certain timer. However, you can speed up the march leading to attack with in-game equipment. More victories and task completion will eventually lead you to the next Ranking and new characters.
The game has been made available in various languages, including – English, Italian, German, French, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, Spanish, and Turkish. So you can use the language and enjoy the game in your native language.
The game can add new characters and bonus points. Also, there are too many settings. Tutorials are mandatory, which I didn’t like as you can’t skip them. Also, while attacking Bandits, they do not fight back. It will be interesting if they do and we lose some points or something like that.
I just started to play the game, and let me be honest, I am not very much into strategy games, but this game fascinated me. I learned about some historical leaders, which kept me hooked up for a while. I would like to conclude that this is a must-play game for its smooth gameplay experience and design. The cartoon style of the game is beguiling too.
The rules, features, characters, goals, and components of The Great War Rivals are overall excellent. The amount of Ads is relatively low, which is a plus point for any game. The game is yet to be fully available as it is in early access now. I cant wait to see what updates it can have near future. I would like some more characters added to the game. My overall experience was satisfactory.
