Ahulussunnah wal Jama'ah (ASWAJA) is the only firqoh of the Islamic Ummah which, based on its birth history and ideology, is still surviving today. It is the only religious sect (madzhab) in Islam that is political in the sense that it was born not from a political parent, or is controlled by interest groups or for political purposes.
Abu Hasan al-Asy'ari as the founder of the school of kalam (theological) of this school is the grandson of a friend of defender Ali bin Abu Tholib, who is known because he is a hafidz and zahid. Abu Hasan al-Asy'ari's students, such as Imm al-Baqillani, Ibn Mujahid, Imam al-Haramayn and al-Ghazali, were all scientists who throughout their lives were devoted to the interests of community empowerment and enlightenment as well as devotion to Allah.
The emergence of Abu Hamid Muhammad bin Muhammad al-Thusi al-Ghazali who managed to combine al_Asy'ari theology with al-Syafi'i jurisprudence and Sufism, further clarified the mission of Ahlussunnah wal Jama'ah as a religious school that prioritizes balance, harmony and harmony in all aspects of Islam (iman-islam-ihsan). The regeneration of Ahlussunnah wal Jama'ah through the Madrasah Nidzamiyah institution, under the charismatic leadership of al-Ghazali succeeded in giving birth to a new generation of fiqh scholars (al-Faqih, Fuqaha') al-Syafi'iyah-al-Asy'ariyah with a special character, namely Sufism .
Ahlussunnah wal Jama'ah jurisprudence, thus, is the sufistic jurisprudence of al-Ghazalianism. This fiqh is accepted and adhered to by the majority of Muslims in the eastern part of the world, including the Archipelago. Archipelago, which has many traditions and cultures in common, is very appreciative and compromising towards the Ahsulussnnah wal Jama'ah fiqh. This jurisprudence prioritizes the guidance of the Koran, al-Sunnah (traditions of the Prophet SAW), the exemplary of the Khulafa' al-Rashidun (Abu Bakr ash-Shiddiq, 'Umar bin al-Khothob, 'Uthman bin 'Affan and Ali bin Abu Talib) and Tabi'in and Tabi' al-Tabi'in.
The presence of preachers who are members of the Wali Sanga institution to the archipelago further strengthens the existence of the Ahlussunnah wal Jama'ah fiqh for religious life (ritual worship, mahdhah) and diversity (social worship, ghayu mahdhah) of the Javanese and Indonesian people in general. Wali Sanga are the 'ulama who defend the theology of Imam al-Asy'ari and the jurisprudence of Ahlussuunnah wal Jama'ah. The Fiqh of Ahlussuunnah wal Jama'ah succeeded in providing guidance and guidelines for worship (rituals and social) which relied on one of the Imams Abu Hanifah, Imam Malik, Muhammad Idris al-Syafi'i and Ahmad bin Hanbal.
