Sejarah Puasa Description
This Android application is an explanation of the purpose of the history of fasting by Ahmad Sarwat, Lc. MA. In PDF format.
In Islamic law, fasting is based on the main sources, namely Al-Quran Al-Kariem, As-Sunnah An-Nabawiyah and also Ijma' (consensus) of all scholars.
Before the obligatory fasting of Ramadan, Rasulullah SAW and his Companions had received orders to do fasting, including fasting three days every month and fasting on the 10th of Muharram (Asyura').
Rasulullah SAW fasted three days in every month and he fasted on the day of Ashura. (Narrated by Abu Dawud).
Then came down the verse that ordered him to do fardhu fasting only in the month of Ramadan. So that all previous fasts are no longer obligatory, but their position becomes sunnah. He had fasted before Ramadan for 17 months.
The obligation to fast during the month of Ramadan is prescribed on the 10th of Sha'ban in the second year after the migration of the Prophet Muhammad to Medina. The time was approximately after the order was sent down to change the qibla from the Al-Aqsa Mosque to the Al-Haram Mosque.
Since then, Rasulullah SAW has fasted Ramadan until the end of his life nine times in nine years.
An-Nawawi (d. 676 H) wrote in his book Al-Majmu' Syarah Al-Muhadzdzab as follows:
Rasulullah SAW fasted Ramadan for 9 years. Because Ramadan fasting is obligatory in the month of Sha'ban in the second year of the Hijriyah, then he SAW died in the month of Rabi'ul Awwal in the eleventh year of the Hijriyah.
