One of the ancient weapons but very effective in destroying and causing many victims is the negative campaign of the term Taqlid.
The proof is that in general, the term 'taqlid' has immediately had a negative connotation in the ears of us Muslims. Even though all of us Muslims cannot be separated from taqlid. And we all have status as muqallid. No one has the status of a mujtahid. Taqlid is the opposite of ijtihad. A person who is taqlid is called a muqallid and a true expert on ijtihad is called a mujtahid.
Somehow suddenly the terms taqlid and muqallid have a very bad connotation. As a result of the actions of supporters of anti-ulama, anti-fiqh and anti-Mazhab thoughts.
The verse that is most often twisted to prohibit Taqlid is the behavior of the Children of Israel who 'worship' their monks and priests.
They make their pious people and their monks as gods besides Allah. (QS. At-Tauba: 31).
Ordinary people are not allowed to refer to the clergy, are not allowed to use the science of jurisprudence and are forbidden to belong to schools of thought, because they are considered shirk. Instead, directly refer to the authentic verses of the Qur'an and hadith.
