Facing Qibla
1. Laws and arguments
Facing the Qiblah is a condition for a valid prayer, it is not valid to pray without facing the Qiblah except in two circumstances, namely during the khauf prayer and the sunnah prayer when traveling on a vehicle.
Imam ash-Syirozi (w 476 H) said:
Facing the Qiblah is a condition for the validity of prayer except in two circumstances; when the situation is very afraid and when praying sunnah when traveling.
Among the arguments indicating the necessity of facing the Qibla are as follows;
a. God's Word
"Then face your face toward the Grand Mosque, and wherever you are, turn your face in that direction" QS. Al-Baqarah: 144
What is meant by the Haram Mosque in this verse is the Kaaba, the evidence for this is the narration of Ibn Abbas:
That the Prophet when he entered the Kaaba prayed on each side, did not pray until he left, after leaving he prayed two cycles facing the Kaaba then said: "this is the Qibla"
