Franco Picciafoco Description
Franco Picciafoco was born in Perugia on 02/15/1950 and has dedicated himself to non-professional photography since 1984. He participated, at the beginning, in various regional and national competitions, immediately distinguishing himself for the
his particular style, based more on the search for emotionality than on technical perfection. After the first years of experience in photography, since 1990 he has devoted himself almost exclusively to
slideshow technique, audio-visual photographic projections. He has collaborated in the creation of some books such as: "Research itineraries", "Gran Tour" and "Appuntidivi [S]ta" whose photos document the enormous cultural and landscape heritage of his city and of the entire Umbria region. In 1992 he was among the creators of the photographic collective on the city of Perugia, achieving great success both with critics and with the public.
In 2001 he created an installation of totally innovative works in the photographic horizon, from which a book was drawn, published together with other local artists: "Umbria, art and thought".
Subsequently, with the same, he exhibited at the premises of the Municipality of Postdam (Germany), in the context of events promoted to promote cultural exchange between the twin cities.
He then participated in an exhibition of various artists and in a group show with other authors of the Perugina Photographic Society. Finally, in 2005/2006 he exhibited in the evocative halls of the "Capitular Museum" of S.an Lorenzo, a first time with the personal "The sounds of silence" and subsequently with the collective exhibition "The ideal city". In 2008 he exhibited in a personal exhibition with images taken from his latest book "Objective Man". In 2016, in collaboration with his wife, he finally published the non-photographic book "Le Vie del Tempo Umano". Instinctive and multifaceted artist, over the years he has made himself known and appreciated not only in the field
photography, but also and above all in the "city" one, so much so that many of his works are exhibited in public and institutional venues in the city.
His images, almost never clear-cut and distinct but always suffused and veiled by something magical and surreal, draw on the universe of the intimate, between dream and fantasy, to the point of transcending the boundaries of photography and reality itself, and assuming that pictorial aspect which has become a constant prerogative of this artist's work.
