Marriage in Islam aims to fulfill religious instructions in order to establish a harmonious, prosperous and happy family. Therefore, marriage is recommended for every capable Muslim individual who does not want to fall into sin. Marriage affinity is not only the affinity between husband and wife but also the two families as well.
Before a wedding is held, generally a man makes a proposal, application or what in Islam is better known as a khitbah to the woman who will be made his future wife. Propose or propose means a request for marriage from a man submitted to a woman and her guardian, or from the woman to the man through an intermediary of someone who is trusted. Even so, it is highly recommended that when you want to preach someone, you need to first consider the criteria in terms of determining your soul mate, so that in the future there will be no regrets that arise in your marriage. This is as stated in the words of Rasulullah SAW which reads:
It was narrated from Abi Hurairah ra that Rasulullah SAW said, `A woman is married for four reasons: because of her wealth, lineage, beauty, and religion. So pay attention to your religion, you will be safe (HR. Bukhari Muslim)
According to Imam al-Nawawi, the purpose of this hadith is that the Prophet informed people about what is customary for people, namely in matters of marriage they look at these four matters and make religious matters the final criterion, therefore choose a woman because a good religion will undoubtedly be lucky and the content of this hadith does not mean at all that Rasulullah saw. ordered to marry women who are rich, respected and beautiful so that religion is the last point in choosing. This is in line with the hadith which prohibits marrying a woman other than because of her religion.
