Understanding
1. Meaning of Rubbing
The word comes from the root word masaha - yamsahu which means to rub or run one's hand over something.
In the Qur'an there is a mention of this word with the meaning of wiping, as the title given to the Prophet Isa alaihissalam, as al-masih which means the one who wipes.
When the Angel said: "O Maryam, verily Allah pleases you with a sentence from Him, his name is Al-Masih 'Isa son of Maryam (QS. Ali Imran: 45)
Among the many versions of why the Prophet Isa 'alaihissalam was called al-masih, is what was narrated from Ibn Abbas radhiyallahuanhu. In Tafsir Al-Jami' li Ahkam Al-Quran it is stated that he was given a miracle by Allah to be able to cure sick people simply by wiping the sick body part.1
Whereas in syari'ah what is meant by wiping is not merely wiping, but the meaning is wiping hands that are wet with water to the part that is rubbed. This is as stated in the Al-Quran about wiping the head:
And wipe your head (QS. Al-Maidah: 6)
In the practice of wiping his head, Rasulullah SAW wet his hands first with water, then ran his wet hands over his head.
2. Definition of Khuff
Khuff is a designation for khuff of a special nature, namely khuff or any type of footwear that can cover the soles of the feet up to both ankles, whether made of leather or other objects. Where footwear can be used for walking.
