Back in mid-to-late 1990's and early 2000's, I was overly confident that my antivirus was protecting every nook & cranny of my albatross of a PC (with its small fraction of processing power and storage of today's smartphones). These days, I feel less secure. ESET isn't enough by itself, but its free scanner is useful as one defense in a larger arsenal. (Update Jan. 2024: Changed from 4 to 5 stars. Can't expect more from a free app. Thanks for making it available, ESET.)
I was satisfied with how the application performed, there were no issues. Unfortunately, Google has updated their dev policy and has disabled the use of text based commands, which allowed a user to locate, and control the device remotely. The text based command feature has saved me multiple times, and I am a firm believer in it. Simply disappointed with the current changes. Once full functionality is enabled once again, this app is easily 5 stars, and I have reccomended ESET to many friends.
I use ESet on my desktop, 2 laptops, 2 cell phones. It's got a small footprint, and so far has kept my wife's & my PCs & phones safe. I highly recommend it. However, in looking thru the update notes to this new version, i don't see any bug fixes or features, just marketing updates to make premium the default for a couple weeks to get us hooked, then hopefully default back to the free version I've used on my phone (I have full paid subscriptions for all my PCs).
