1. Lineage
His full name is Abdurrahman bin Kamal bin Abi Bakr bin Muhammad bin Sabiquddin bin Bakr Uthman bin Nadziruddin al-Himam al-Khudhairi as-Suyuthi al-Mishri as-Syafi'i. His laqab is Jalaluddin as-Suyuthi while his chew is Abu Fadhl.
His grandfather, Sabiquddin, was an expert in nature and was a shaykh of tariqah in the world of Sufism. Imam Suyuthi's family was generally respected people who had positions, some became government officials, some were big businessmen at that time. Only Imam Suyuthi's parents were concerned about serving in religious scholarship.
2. Birth
He was born in an area called Asyut in Egypt on a Sunday night in the month of Rajab in 849 H. Imam as-Suyuthi grew up orphaned. His father died when Imam as-Suyuthi was not even six years old. In his childhood as-Suyuthi earned the nickname Ibnul Kitab (child of the book), that is, when his mother was pregnant, his father asked him to fetch several books from his private library. It was when she wanted to take the books that her mother suddenly felt like giving birth, and finally As-Suyuthi's tiny baby was born among the books in her father's library.
3. Journey to Demand Knowledge
The journey of seeking knowledge for Imam as-Suyuthi has indeed been instilled by his father since he was a toddler. Namely when his father often took him to attend the science assembly of a famous sheikh, which later he found out -through his father's colleague - that the sheikh was al-Imam al-Hafidz Ibnu Hajar as-Asqalani.
Before reaching the age of eight, Imam as-Suyuthi had memorized the Qur'an and several other books such as Umdah al-Ahkam by al-Maqdisi, Minhaj an-Nawawi, Minhaj al-Baidhowi and Alfiyah Ibnu Malik.
