Establishing an Islamic state is an aspiration full of dilemmas and pros and cons in the midst of debate among Muslims today.
Since the fall of the Ottomans in Turkey in 1924, there have been many ideas and movements that have the ultimate goal of establishing an Islamic state.
Jamaluddin Al-Afghani started with his big idea: Pan Islamism. Then appeared in Egypt the movement founded by Hasan Al-Banna, Al-Ikhwan Al-Muslimun in 1918. Al-Maudidi in Pakistan also contributed to giving ideas about an Islamic state. In Jordan there is An-Nabhani who founded Hizb ut-Tahrir with the dream of establishing a caliphate.
In Indonesia, it was recorded that there was a Karto Suwiryo rebellion with the ideals of establishing Darul Islam, or what is familiarly known as NII.
